Switched to GMAC at advice of independent agent in Arizona, but I live most of the year in Nevada so had to call GMAC on phone for Nev. agent.  Told this 'agent' on the phone I wanted the EXACT coverage I had previously had with my old company, read it over the phone to him for truck, jeep and RV. 

He got it wrong, and did not put comp and collision on my truck, but put it instead on the RV I tow!  Most agents would know that is not right! I didn't catch it in the move. Their policies are so poorly set up and hard to understand when several vehicles are involved.  Realized 4 months later I DID NOT HAVE COLLISION on my truck all that time, when my request for glass replacement was at first approved and them abruptly cancelled.  So even THEY didn' teasily  see what was covered and what not .  That could have been costly had an accident occurred!!

 Complained about the inept agent and supposedly GMAC went back to the original tape of my conversation with that agent and said that was what I told him to do--to put the comp/collision of the RV. (Rediculous!! That is NOT what I requested. Yet they refused to let me hear the tape so I could verify it.  Note: The RV is automatically covered with comp/coll if attached to the truck at time of accident.  What good agent wouldn't know that?  I immediately canceled the insurance, on Nov. 18 and signed my name to letter to GMAC asking to cancel insurance on Nov. 18 since I had gone with Liberty Mutual (a great company by the way both customer service wise and $ wise) on that date. 

Then GMAC ineptly cancelled my insurance on Nov. 17 rather than the 18th and sent the incorrect info to DMV. DMV was now threatening to charge me $500 ($250 each vehicle) for not having insurance for that one day.  The lady (who could hardly speak English) at GMAC said sorry, that Nov. 17 was what I asked for.  I had to make several more calls to GMAC before one gal said, yes, here it is in the comments, that the insurance was to be cancelled on Nov. 18. 

Several calls later to both GMAC and DMV finally got it cleared. But not without more inept procedures.  Two letters went out from GMAC to DMV (cc me).  One saying Nov. 18 was correct date but not listing the 3 vehicles it concerned.  A second from another part of the USA saying I have 3 vehicle coverage STILL EFFECTIVE through March 2012, even tho they were all cancelled on Nov. 18.  At least I got cleared with DMV.  What a nightmare.

How inept can you get???    DON'T purchase with GMAC.

Confusing policies combined with 'Poor' customer service.

GMAC changed my policy 4 times in the course of one year without my knowledge or consent. When asked about it , the customer service representative could not explain and tried to blame it on me.

They also failed to notify Dept. of Motor Vehicles that I was insured with them, for over a year, and I didn't know my registrations on three of my vehicles had been suspended until I just this week recieved my renewal notice from DMV that stated my registration has been suspended for over a year. I spoke with DMV and they told me if I had been pulled over my vehicles would have been towed and impounded!. GMAC had nothing to say about this eitherbut they collected my payments for over a year! When I cancelled them they siad they would rfund me $73. WHAT!?! Can you say: "RIPOFF"! 

I don't know yet what the total cost to me will be to reinstate the registrations on my 3 vehicles but I know it will be in the hundreds of dollars! I am pretty pissed at GMAC and warn you all to AVOID GMAC like the plauge!

I went to GMAC because they were affiliated with Good Sam. What a mistake! I will also be contacting Good Sam to complain. They too may lose my business after this fiasco!

I went back to AMICA insurance company which is friendly, curteous, helpful and the policies are always correct. Sure it cost me a few bucks more with AMICA but I can sleep at night now.

GMAC Customer Service Rated: 1 out of 5

The customer Services Reps do not present themselves as knowledgable, friendly or helpful. Quite the opposite. I hated to even talk to them because I knew I would not recieve a proper answer to my inquiries.

Policies are not well defined or explained and may be changed at the whim of GMAC without your knowledge.
