Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
When I originally applied to Grand Canyon University (GCU), I was misled and under the impression that GCU is a Christian institution, upholding Christian values found in Gods Word, the Bible. To the degradation of GCUs image, my Christian values were frowned upon and ridiculed in my most recent course, Counseling Theories. During the first week of this course, the professor insinuated that Christian students are not open-minded. Additionally, the professor referred to God by names such as Great Mystery, not a Biblical name for the God of the Bible. I let this incident pass without conflict, trying to give the professor the benefit of a doubt.

However, the professor's unprofessional behavior in Week 3 of the course prompted my withdrawal from GCU. One of the Discussion Questions assigned that week asked if I could be genuine, accepting, and empathic with all clients that I could encounter in a counseling office. I answered this question, as honestly as possible, stating that I could not be genuine, accepting, or empathic with clients seeking counseling for gay-, l*****n-, bisexual-, or transgender-related issues, as these issues conflict with my Biblical values. Further, I stated that, if presented with a client of this nature, I would do the ethical thing by referring this client to a counselor whom I knew to be competent in providing the services needed by this client.

One of my fellow peers questioned this response. Instead of remaining neutral or staying silent on the subject, the professor sided with the student questioning me, stating most counseling agencies would not tolerate my wanting to refer this type of client to someone more knowledgeable on gay, l*****n, bisexual, or transgender issues. Further, the professor seized the opportunity to shove the gay/l*****n/bisexual/transgender agenda down the throats of every student in the class. The unprofessional, and un-Christian, professor stated that individuals of this population are born that way and that the gay, l*****n, bisexual, or transgender lifestyle is not a sin as I had stated. This is NOT the Biblical position, per Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-28, and Romans 1:31-32.

I have tried fighting with GCU to get my money back for this course, but the school refuses to do so, saying that the professor acted professionally. Excuse me? This is supposed to be a Christian school where Christian values are supposed to be respected, encouraged, and upheld. Knowing that the Bible stands against the gay lifestyle, the professor certainly acted unprofessionally by trying to dispute the truths of the Bible...the same truths that the school vows to uphold!

Do not believe the lie that GCU is a Christian school. It is most definitely NOT the Christian school it claims to be. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere if you are seeking a Christian education, as it is not to be had at Grand Canyon University!

I was not sure if I wanted to join this university. I was scared that their Liberal Arts Degree would be a contradictory program. But after your comment, I realize now that this is not a university with close-minded professors. I'm glad I found this article. I feel sorry for your way of thinking, but whatever makes you happy!

Thank you again for this report.

Christianity is accepting of all people- Christianity is love, kindness, and forgiveness, not hating people? Christ loved all- do you understand this? He loved ALL. You are not a true Christian but a self-righteous hypocrit who will never make it in the world of counseling. You give Christianity a BAD name and make me want to convert to Islam or join al qaeda. You are a poor example of a Christian.

Full Refund Finally Received!!!

To the credit of Grand Canyon University, I finally received a full refund for the course in question. Obtainig this refund, however, was not an easy process. I had to mail letters to the Provost, President, Vice President, etc. in order to make this happen. Upon receipt of the letter, I was contacted by the Regional Director of the school, who completely understood my disgust, frustration and, most importantly, my Christian viewpoint. In fact, the Regional Director actually begged me to return to classes at GCU, which I declined, as I cannot attend a "Christian" university that would allow this fiasco to happen to begin with. Since this fiasco, I have found a wonderful school, where my Christian viewpoints are cherished, and I can complete my program of study in 2 years, compared to the 3 years required by GCU. I would highly recommend God-fearing, Bible-believing Christians to shop different schools rather than choosing GCU. There are other, true Christian schools out there! Trust me, I found one!!! :)

Not A Conservative Christian School

If you are not looking for a conservative, God-fearing, Christian school, then Grand Canyon is where you need to be. As a matter of fact, these "Christians" do not even adhere to the Bible, the inspired Word of God. So, if you want to go to a school that claims to be "Christian", even though it is clearly not, then Grand Canyon is your place. If you are a conservative Christian like myself, however, Grand Canyon is the place to avoid!

Knowing that your views were not tolerated has convinced me to enroll in their graduate program. I was a little hesitant at first seeing how GCU is a Christian univesity, but knowing their professors don't tolerate hate or discrimination has truly swayed me.
