Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I registerd for classes in 2009, at Grand Canyon University for classes in Special Education. The first week of class, 07/23/09, I post to the forum information about myself. I started an essay on why a teacher's portfolio is a good tool for teachers. I never received a response from my teacher acknowledging my presents or answer to my question, that is, about using my experience as a Special Education Teacher in my required assignment. I spoke to financial aid counselors and to advisors - Lorenzo and Angelo who told me that it was not normal for a professor not to reply. Furthermore, they insisted that I wait the 2nd week to get a reply from my teacher. After waiting the 2nd week, I emailed my professor for the 2nd time and told him that I could not understand why he did not respond to my post and emails and that I no longer wanted to be in his class. I called Angelo and told him that I did not receive a response from my teacher, and, I did not want to attend Grand Canyon University any longer. He said, Maybe the professor doesnt like you. I should have known not to get a degree in Colorodo, the last state to sign for Dr. Martin Luther Kings holiday.

Since then, I have been charged for a service never rendered, and charged for a second class, I never attended, costing me $2,998.00. I now know that Angelo and Lorenzo told me to wait until the second week so that I would be locked into paying for classes. I was told to write the president of the school about my complaint and did just that. Once again, I received no response or my funds back. This is robbery! I do not want any student ever to have to go through this. I want my money credited back to me. Also, my new school states that they still have me registered in Grand Canyon for classes. Amazing!

I have written The President of the United States, and plan on using any information possible to help me in this matter. No one has the right to charge you for services never rendered. It was like being out in an ocean without help, all by myself. At this point if there are any students that have complaints against Grand Canyon write President Obama because he wants the best for all students. Pray about it because there is a God in Heaven, and get in touch with the Attorney General of Colorodo - Better Bussiness Bureau, file complaints with the police department, call the news, use face book and U-Tube to tell potential students to stay away from Grand Canyon University. I am doing all that I can to get justice for myself and all students that have been treated unfairly. I have read previous statements about students complaints. You would expect more from educated people at that school. There greed exceeds their intelligence. I dont see anything Christian about robbing students.

This isnt surprising. Turnover at this institution is widespread and growing because of the type of managers and assistant directors they have in place. Nearly all of them have ZERO postsecondary credentials and are in the positions they are in because they have just stuck around for years with no real inner drive to excel or move out of the fruitless capacity they serve in. Pete Martinez, for example who oversees the southeastern division (among others) that you speak of has his hands filled with a director out on maternity leave and an assistant director Ben people call him Gentle Ben because this f*cktard is in the assistant director position because he drank the most beers in his frat and most likely paid his professors to give him a worthless masters from Devry or Argosy or some other random. All the managers kiss his worthless a*s and that translates into poor management because what kind of manager is going to have a good day when Ben is the kind of guy you have to answer to and his sh*tty cubicle job is all you have to spire to (in some cases) after ten plus years. *Shudder* no wonder you Southwest students are so frustrated. The turnover rate is suffering because the school is filled with worthless, incompetent morons selling a sh*tty product. Good luck with that.

Don't know why I would be an employee--I am a grade school teacher in Oregon so how would I be an employee for GCU? Again, I am very happy with my experience--and I know where the school is located unlike the poster of this complaint:) I have many fellow classmates who are also very happy with their experience. The author of this letter has a lot of issues-from lack of grammatical skills to lack of geography skills--maybe that is why they had a problem with the school??

Hello I am currently a graduate student at GCU and I have been having similar problems with this school. My problems like yours began when I first started attending the school in December 09 and it is still unresolved. They told me that I was over awarded in 09/10 school year because my cost of attendance was calculated wrong. I believe that they are running a financial aid scam. I have contacted the Ombudsman and reported them to the BBB. I also am planning to post my story so hopefully it won't happen to someone else. Have you proceeded with the civil suit? I would definitely like to be apart of it.

I have been attending this school since April of last year. I am working towards my Master's in Special Education. To assist me in my endeavors, I have an academic counselor who calls and emails me on a regular basis. I have a financial adviser who calls me about once per class (which is an 8 week period). And I have an enrollment counselor who also calls and emails me on a regular basis. They have been so amazingly helpful with my education--I never received this amount of attention at the land-based university where I got my undergrad. There I had to fight to get an adviser and was mis-advised so many times I lost count. One thing I do have to say is that if you don't even know the state in which the school resides--you have little room to question someone else's competency.

No wonder you hate this learning institution. Despite your disdain for this company and for the state of Colorado, these are two separate issues. First, a quick search on google with that address will show you that this college is located in Arizona. Second, I strongly doubt they charged you out of thin air. Do you remember signing a contract/agreement? Anything where you might have agreed to being put into classes and, hence, billed? No bill, charge, or debt would hold up in court without you signing something of the sorts... However, the fact that you didn't even know which state YOUR college was in might indicate you have no idea what you signed.... Just guessing...

Hello,
First, I am so sorry you are going through this situation with GCU.  This is not right.  I have filed a report here as well.  I also filed one on Friday with the BBB: BBB of Central, Northern & Western Arizona
(Phoenix, AZ)
4428 N. 12th Street
Phoenix, AZ 85014-4585
Phone: (602)264-1721
Fax: (602)263-0997
Email: [email protected]
Web: http://arizonabbb.org

It took a few minutes, but GCU has only so much time to respond.  It is a solid way to go.  I am working on making videos on www.youtube.com re: GCU and Fraud.  Please, I agree with you we need to get some power, by banding together.

I have contacted the Az.gov website and I have also written the president.  I think the more attention that we get the better our chances are at being heard.

Yes, I want to join in on a class action law suit.

Look for me on youtube my user name is reddhottmama? Too late to change it now.  I have red hair.

Good luck, let's get this whole thing started shall we?

I am not done with this school and I want an apology and my money back. Tell everyone about your horrible experience. "Start with the Federal Government". No one should have to pay for services never rendered, and put up with those stupid games they play with people's futures. Write the President of the United States and senators, congressmen, Better Business Bureau, and get in touch with the Attorney General Offices.

Together we are one.We are living in an age where "Greed Exceeds Their Moral Obligations." God knows that if we keep our faith even if it is the size of a mustard seed anything is possible. I totally agree with your complaint about GCU. I regret that I ever enrolled with that "university" due to the fact that, because of them, I'm having problems attending a new college. GCU withdrew too much money from my subsidized loans preventing me from getting more loan money from my lender. I would have said maybe it was a mistake, but they also ripped my husband off. They did not send his funds back and now he has a problem with overlapping loans (as though he's still attending there); this issue is preventing him from attending another school as well. It's so discouraging to go through something like this when all we're trying to do is better ourselves. We have 5 children and are already struggling. We're trying to obtain our degrees to ensure financial security and live a comfortable life; but now we're being cheated out of money that we need for school. It is TRULY sad and now, I don't think either one of us will trust any other online school. It has been a horrible experience and I don't believe if it was all just a mistake that so many people would have complaints on here about them. I REALLY hope that justice will prevail for all students who were cheated...TRULY, TRULY sad.
