Grand Mayan Vacation Club Riviera Maya Cancun Mexico   BEWARE OF THEM!!!!!
We are one of the most recent victims of their scam. Be forewarned, this can happen to you, we met their frontliner @ hertz rental, cancun, who lured us to attend a 90 min presentation. we refused at first becuase we never go to these timeshare presentation. he assured us that this is different. they just want to show us the place so that next time we visit Cancun, we can consider staying there. he said it is not a timeshare, ad promised us small perks here and there.
Needless to say, we were subjected to a 6 hour ordeal of high pressure, fraudulent, unethical sales tactics the sales people were relentless in scamming us. Somehow, after 6 gruesome hours of psychological ordeal, we gave in and signed a contract. then comes the tons of paperwork to sign and initial for just over 5- 10 min., briefly (somewhat) explaining details, but the fine prints and the volume for such a short period of time after hours and hours of sweet and bogus talk of how wise this investment is, the great value, flexibility, etc, etc..we foolishly gave in. They will tell you it is a one day thing, it's either we sign now or never. we are usually not impulsive and are well educated consumers, but we guess that their well planned, well calculated professional con sales tactics prevailed.
We were never informed verbally of the short period that cancellation is allowed in mexico, 5 days, that's it after that, you're doomed!!!!!. Dont be misled either. Everything that they talked about are all all in scratch papers which disappear, and will not appear in your contact, Everything that led you to sign is nowhere in the contract.
After being bombarded by how great it is, all the $$$ that you can gain, either by renting or selling your weeks, and access to all kinds of travel associations, then the contract states they are not guaranteeing anything, and it is not for rental or investments.
The contract contradicts everything that they tell you, they are trying to hide behind the legal contract. nothing looks illegal in the contract...it is to protect them. What you should be aware of is the fraudulent information and sales pitch that they give you, plus in a high pressure situation, even the most sane person can be persuaded by these "experts".
As soon as we had time to research this (after coming back home to US), we realized we were scammed. of course it is past the 5 day cancellation period which we were not informed. Also the promised value of both rental and sale of particular terms in this vacation club is way far overinflated, one week rent i s anywhere between $99-1200, but not $2500/week as they claimed. A 4 week/year cost us $58000, and its fair market value at present is only a fraction of it. Also the hardship that vacation club members experience when they want to book their vacation or exchange their weeks is complete opposite of what they talked about. THIS HAS TO STOP. IT IS ABOUT TIME THEY LEARN TO CONDUCT BUSINESS THE PROPER WAY. We, Americans(and other tourists for that matter), work hard to have a well deserved vacation amidst the hard economy. we shouldnt let these people ruin our vacation, in lieu of some perks, or ruin our life by giving away our hard earned money, savings, retirement, college funds for our kids, etc,
We are keeping them alive with our money. Without tourism these people are nothing, there wont be any Cancun. Remember, this is not the only vacation place to go...carribean, europe, africa, asia..even just to stay in mainland US to boost our own economy.
We are determined to take this plight of informing fellow Americans to be aware, and beware of Grupo Mayan/ Grand Mayan Riviera Maya-Cancun vacation club. They will approach anywhere, everywhere....airport...rental car places...etc.etc JUST SAY NO. Learn from our mistake. To this date, we are demanding cancellation of our contract because of their fraudulent acts We will make sure that Americans get warned, whatever it takes. Again, for those of you thinking of vacationing in Cancun, Mexico, beware, change your plan, or if you go, simply say no and enjoy your much deserved vacation. If you get persuaded by their few perks...it will cost you thousands and thousands of dollars..and the HIGHPRESSURE, FRAUDULENT, and UNETHICAL SALES TACTICS THEY SUBJECT YOU TO...IT IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT...REMEMBER< STAY AWAY FROM GRAND MAYAN VACATION CLUB. Again, it is time for them to learn how to conduct business the proper way.  To the Mexican Govt... It is time to put these mega companies under scrutiny.

Mayan Palace sales tactics are hardcore and they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you into the contract and keep you in contract with them. It is too common for the sales representative to offer you an upgrade if you already own a timeshare with them.  Most of the Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam being committed by the Sales representative is that they don’t let their buyers know they have a 5 days cooling period if they wish to cancel; instead, they repeatedly tell they buyers once the contract is being sign there is no cancellation period.

The sales tactics are the same for everyone at the Mayan Palace timeshare resorts. Hard sell, disrespectful when you say no, broken promises. DO NOT think for one moment that you have an upper hand...these are professional con artists highly trained to take your money. You have no chance of ever seeing your money again or receiving anything close to the value you were promised. Assume that everything posted by Grupo Mayan and its affiliates is a lie or a scam. Never do business with this company; never buy a mayan palace timeshare scam.
