This online auction company allows items to be listed that it knows are misrepresented and fraudulent. I have repeatedly tried to lodge a complaint with the only result being that I have been banned from their website. As I tried to explain to them, by knowingly listing fraudulent merchandise they are as guilty as those who post these items. There are literally thousands of items that are not as listed by the sellers. In addition, when you are scammed by one of their sellers, there is no recourse other than the whim of the seller. If he/she chooses to respond to your complaint, you are among the fortunate ones, because the company will do nothing apart from try to silence you.

GunBroker has found that people with FREE email accounts are more likely to be con artist or bad guys in the Sudan.

They do not have a great way to validate a person identity.  Right now they use the a AVS ( Address Verification Service ) check on a credit card to validate the users who enter the site using a FREE email account.  To pass the AVS check, you must enter a credit card AND the correct address belonging to that credit card.  They take this information and if it matches the address you registered with... you pass.

Well the credit card companies charge a fee to do this check.  GunBroker does not like eating this fee... so they charge your credit card a $1 for each AVS attempt.  So if you get your address wrong or you have a PO box as an address or you are in the wilderness an you have some odd ball mailing address ( TX and WI rural routes ), you will never pass the AVS check.  They do give you $1 as back ( or if it took you 10 tries, $10 ) as a credit on their site.  The credit is good for selling items on their site.

If you are only a buyer... then you probably will never get to use up that credit.  If you are only a buyer, you should try to register on GunBroker with a non-free email address.  EG:  Like the email you have at work.
