On October 11,2003,I purchased a (certified)used 2002 PT Cruiser for my wife and children.The people in the dealership were really nice,taking care of my kids,and really making us feel like we were part of their family.

Had no problems with the car.

My wife and kids loved this car. However,on the evening of February 12,2004,my wife and children pull into a convenience store to use the MAC machine. Upon preparing to exit car,our 11-year-old daughter noticed white smoke in between our car and the car my wife parked next to. My wife assumed it was the car they had parked next to. My wife asked our daughters if they were ready to go into the store when all of a sudden black smoke flooded up the outside of the windshield.

Everyone exited safely. Shortly the engine was engulfed in flames.Passer-bys extinguished the flames. Our oldest daughter arrived on the scene shortly after my wife called her to tell her what had happened. She took my terrified daughters away from the scene. My wife then waited 3 hours for roadside assistance to come to tow the car back to Hammonton Chrysler.

Upon further investigation, through forensics it was determined by Chrysler themselves that we were sold a used car who the previous owners had recieved 3 notices of a recall and chose to ignore them. How does a dealership who claims to have a 125 point inspection on the used cars to "Certify" them,not know to check to see if the fuel line was corrected?

To add insult to injury,we were charged $199. for window etching that was never done.I call and speak to Ron the Finance Manager and tell him that this was not done and he askes me how does he know it wasn't done. I told him to go out on his lot and look at the burnt up Cruiser!! And we also purchased GAP insurance for another $400.We can't cancel it for a refund because Hammonton Chrysler doesn't know where they submitted it!!

So bottom line. These people get paid for my car, I walk away with my license plates, fuzzy dice and a 7-year-old who is scared to death to get into another car!!! They never tried to rectify this situation. If it wasn't for Chrysler coming through,I don't know what we would have done!!
