Bought a Safe Haven 2 boat lift built by Carolina WaterWorks of SC, installed by Harbor Detailing a Marine Survey, 1st) Lift was not installed correctly, came apart during installation and twice within a month after by itself before boat arrived. Marina had to put back together both times. 2nd) Lift did not work correctly. Lift cannot be operated alone.  Air tank leaked and lines blew off during first attempt to use lift. 3rd) Could not get boat on lift. When we did it was stuck. Removal by crew and utility boat damaged brand new boat. Boat had to be hauled out of water immediately. 4th) Come to find out they sold me the wrong lift for boat. Both Installing dealer and manufacturer claim no responsibility. They blame each other. After phone calls and emails nothing happens. My total costs: Lift $13800.00, Lift installation $500.00, repairs to lift and hull damage on brand new boat $4800.00(7 bills), summer dock slip not used $2900.00. Boat could not be used all summer. Cannot put a price on that loss. These two incompetant and fraudulant companies must be held accountable.

this issue is beyond our control.  There are thousands of these boat lifts in service.  I would like to clarify some issues that have arisen, and attempt to resolve.

First, Carolina Waterworks, Inc is a marine manufacturer.  We have selected dealers all over the country.  All of our dealers are trained prior to having franchises awarded.  Mr. Jude Ciocci of Harbor Detailing, Brigantine, NJ was a dealer at the time of the installation.  The statements by Mr Edward Fikis are incorrect.  The truth is that the installation crew removed the four straps that retained the air tanks below the lift that were not to be removed.  Mr. Fikis advised us that the tanks came out while the boat lift was being towed to the installation site.  In this process of removing the straps for the air tanks i would suggest that the air hoses to the tanks were probably stressed.  There are hose clamps provided for the air hose fittings.  The hose, fittings, clamps are all off the shelf items.  We provided Harbor Detailing with new straps to be installed prior to using the boat lift.

Not all boats can be loaded on a drive on boat lift or standard drive on trailer.  It is the boat owners responsibility to verify with the boat manufacturer that his boat can be loaded on a drive on lift or standard drive on trailer.  Our dealer, Harbor Detailing (Mr. Jude Ciocci) ordered the boat lift from us to be sold to Mr. Edward Fikis, we as the manufacturer had no information on the boat he was going to put on the lift.

After Mr. Fikis notified us of the problem of getting his boat off of the lift, we, Carolina Waterworks, Inc, checked with the manufacturer of the boat and found the hull to be a stepped hull design and inherently are not designed to be driven onto a floating platform or standard bunk drive on trailer due to the steps hanging up when trying to back off.  Step hull boats require modified supports to prevent damage to the hull so they are not recommended to be driven on or off of drive on platforms or standard bunk trailers that do not completely submerge to completely release the boat or allow the boat to float freely off of the platform.  Safehaven Lifts do not completely submerge; therefore we do not recommend Safehaven Lifts for stepped hull boats.

Carolina Waterworks, Inc. has offered to refund the dealer the amount of dealer purchase for the Safehaven Harbor 2, provided the boat lift is returned to CWI.  At this time we have not had any response from Harbor Detailing.

To summarize, Carolina Waterworks, Inc sold a Safehaven Harbor 2 to Harbor Detailing.  Harbor Detailing negotiated a sale to Mr. Fikis.  Carolina Waterworks is a marine manufacturer, not a marine contractor.  As a comparison, consider an air-conditioning manufacturer like Trane or Carrier.  The manufacturer sells an air- conditioning system to a dealer, and the dealer installes the unit improperly.  is the manufacturer responsible for the failed installation?  Or, one goes to the lumber yard and purchases lumber to build a house, and the house is not constructed properly and falls down.  Is the lumber yard responsible?
