On Feb 28, 2007 Heartland Finance contacted me through the computer. I needed to refinance because my mortgage rate had gone up too high. Our payments were behind due to illness so we felt we couldn't go to the bank. We thought we could trust this company.

A salesman named Steven called and made an appointment to come to our house to talk with us. When he arrived he was with his branch manager Michael Tuomala, who did all the talking. In brief we told him about why we we late with the payments and what we wanted to do. He told us we had enough equity in the home and he would be able to get us ten thousand dollars to help with the payments for the next year. He even printed out a program for us. we were delighted

We gave them all the paperwork he needed. From bank papers to social security nos. He told us he was sure the loan would go through. We paid for the appraisial. It came up higher than I thought. We waited for a closing date and waited. They would not answer our calls. Finally I got an answer, they told me they needed a payment history as the bank was taking too long. They asked me to go through all my cancelled checks and fax them to them. Of course like a fool I did.

That was weeks ago I have not heard from them since. Someone told me about Rip off report and what a surprise when I found out this is not the first time this company does this. They are all over the country.

I had to change my bank account over because I am afraid they are going to try to get my husband's checks or my cheks.

Also they told me not to worry about paying the mortgage because they were going to pay it off and now my mortgage is in foreclosure.

attention update Michael Tuomala did contact me and we did agree on a temporary mortgage.It is not completely to my satisfaction but due to the foreclosure that occured it was the best he could do for now. He did assure me in 6 months he would be able to get me a better rate with taxes and insurance.. We will see then He is trying now....I will keep in touch.

This is Michael W. Tuomala, the branch manager of Heartland in Marlborough, MA. This complaint was filed due to lack of communication due to loan officer, Steven being terminated. When this customer was brought back to my attention by my processor I comtacted the borrower and completed the loan transaction. This was a very hard loan to process for multiple reasons. I am happy to even be able to close this loan. I acknowledge the lack of communication, but the service that I provided to close this loan was exceptional. This is one of the hardest loans I've worked in my 10 year career. I am proud of my effort solving this customers problem.
