I omitted to provide an update, but MasterCard worked with me to reverse the transaction and I dared the property owner to challenge it.
I received a permanent credit for the $500 this jacka$s tried to steal.
I still have time to bring a claim against him for damages. And don't you know I am sure considering it. People that rip other people off should pay for their evil ways. For every person who complains, there are 10 others who were ripped off and never complained.
Don't let anybody rip you off. If you find out you've been screwed, screw them back ten times harder!!!

After learning of my dispute with Mastercard, my filing a Ripoff Report here, and my filing a complaint with the Asheville, NC Better Business Bureau, the merchant sent word that he would spend $10,000 before he ever agreed to refund the $500 he stole from me. Mastercard's Zero Liability policy works against the merchant, thankfully, and provides that a "card issuer won't hold you responsible for unauthorized purchases." But I'm glad the merchant has given me a budget to work with. I'm an attorney, and I will be billing my time involved in this dispute at $200 an hour. Thus far I've spent 4.75 hours ($950) and $28 in travel. Together with the original $500 taken unlawfully from my account, this d****ebag owes me $1,478! Since he committed the fraud electronically and my account is in Georgia, I'm asserting that he's waived personal jurisdiction and can be sued here in my local Superior Court. He'll have to hire local counsel to defend this, and that will cost him far more than the $500 he stole.
