This is a Email sent to a consumer advocate. Hi, My name is Douglas, I live at Hills Haven mobile home park inBuchanan, Mi.. I recently received a pre-eviction notice from park
management for a $5 discrepancy in my monthly lot rent, we did pay the $5 but it was late getting to them because we did not have a manager at the time of the discrepancy to inform us of that we were $5 short on rent, when we found out we did pay the $5 but the park has been charging us a $30 late fee per month that keeps compounding. My wife spoke with management and told them that we will not pay the late fees as they had no manager in the office to inform us of the discrepancy when rent was payed.
To day we received a card from the Berrien, county sheriffs dept. while we were at work. Obviously this trailer park is attempting to evict us for a bill that we feel was payed and are try to extort us in to paying more then we owe. This company has been attempting to charge us for every little thing since I called the Berrien, county Health Dept. on
them for raw sewage flowing through my yard from the neighboring trailer for more then a year. When we did have a manager my neighbor and my wife and I both called management attempting to get the sewage problem remedied and all they would do is run a hose down the pipe and flush it out. Sure it would work for about 3 to 5 days at a time and then clog
back up. After I called the Health Dept. with in 4 hours a plumbers truck was here fixing the problem, but ever since my family has been discriminated against and been getting written up for any and everything that these people can think of.. Thank you for your speedy response,

My wife and myself have tried to talk to these people several times, always getting the same response. " Hills Haven and Heritage are not affiliated". What a lie, now they tell us that they will help us differ a payment if we pay a bogus late fee on lot rent for a $5 discrepancy in a lot rent payment that happened over 2 months ago. By the way we did pay the $5, and I agree it was a little late but now they are trying to charge us a $30 late fee per month on the $5 we payed. By the way the $5 fee is for our 11 pound dog. Can you believe it? A trailer park where we are purchasing a trailer in through Heritage and they charge a $5 per month fee in lot rent to own a dog. We have attempted to talk to who ever is in charge for the week several times, we have contacted Heritage and asked if they could help us figure out how to get these late fees removed always getting the same answer. " Hills Haven and Heritage are not affiliated". I am
truly tired of the constant run around that my wife and myself get from these people and when we do get an answer from them its a total lie.
This is how bogus that Hills Haven management is. Just the day before yesterday we received a write up in the mail for a home made window air conditioner surround. The write up stating that I had 5 days to remove the surround or Hills Haven would have it removed and charge us $75 for removing it. I proceeded to write the a letter and this is the exact copy of the letter that I dropped in the drop box.
To whom it may concern.
My name is Douglas XXXXX, I live at XXXX Hills Haven road lot #XX. I have recently received a Wright up from Hills Haven management concerning a wood frame surrounding a window unit air conditioner and this letter is to inform Hills Haven management that the wood frame will not be removed as it is not against either Berrien county building code nor is it a fire hazard. This very same wood frame has been used every year in the same window since my family has taken possession of the mobile home locate at the same address above and will continued to be used until myself and my family decide to vacate the residence. The Write up stated that I have 5 days to remove the wood frame or Hills Haven will remove it and charge me a $75 fee. This will not happen, I have been in contact with my attorney and he has informed me that as long as I was not breaking any laws or in violation of any safety codes then there is nothing that Hills Haven Management can do about the wood frame around the AC unit. He has also informed me that Hills Haven management is now walking a very fine line between harassment and renter discrimination with all the previous correspondence along with this one. He has also told me that if Hills Haven or anybody representing Hills Haven attempts to remove or repair the enclosure that I am to call the Berrien county Police and have them arrested for breaking and entering.
A copy of this letter has also been sent to my attorney along with all the rest, including the bogus late fees from a $5 discrepancy in lot rent. Also I have sent the report from the Berrien county Health Inspector about the raw sewage that flowed across my lot for a year and a half. My patients is at its end and I am willing to go to court to end Hills Havens and Heritages continued discriminations of its residents.
