Hewlett Packard has knowingly sold faulty laptop computers to its consumers in the last few years.  They have "kindly" offered "enhanced warranty's" on certain models with the defect, but not all.  Unfortunately, mine, which is an HP Pavilion dv9740, is not included on that list but does have the defect.

I purchased my laptop on January 29, 2008.  In December 2008, my motherboard suffered failure due to an overheating issue caused by the video driver.  HP repaired my laptop at no cost to me since it was under warranty.  I was granted another 90 days warranty.  Sadly, my laptop started to overheat again not too long after the "extended" 90 days expired.  Needless to say, my laptop has suffered the same fate just this month.  On March 14, 2010, my motherboard stopped functioning.

I have contacted Hewlett Packard several times to attempt getting it repaired at no charge, however, at this time they are unwilling to repair my laptop unless I pay for it.  I feel it was never repaired correctly the first time, since they obviously replaced my damaged motherboard with the same motherboard that suffers the same fate.

I will continue to fight Hewlett Packard and I hope they soon acknowledge that they sold thousands of laptops with the defect.  As of this month, March 2010, China is pursuing legal action against Hewlett Packard regarding the faulty laptops.  Hewlett Packard actually apologized to the Chinese people and is planning a resolution for them...but what about everyone else with the same problem??
