Hi, last week I sold a Dell inspiron 1000 laptop on ebay. I had the laptop listed two other times in the month of Nov. but never got any bids, so this time I listed it was a BUY IT NOW price of $300 (Item number: 290055433478), hoping to sell it since I needed the money. About four hours after listing it Ebayer hitechbank used buy it now and paid me via paypal the next morning, which was Nov. 27th.

I did not have time to mail it out on the 27th because that was my wedding day, instead I mailed it out on November 29th. I paid $35 to have it shipped from NY to CA (which is more than the $25 I charged for shipping), and then I sent him an email stating I had just shipped it out and I provided him with a tracking number.

About 3 days ago I canceled my ebay account. I had sold a handbag to a woman who was looking to buy a LV bag for her daughter for Christmas. After she received the bag she complained to me that she wanted a refund because she found the bag from someone else at a cheaper price. Well, I state in all my auctions that I don't give refunds, especially not for the reason of her finding the same bag for a cheaper price.

She sent me a couple more nasty emails and even called my house a few times but finally realized how much of a fool she was making of herself, and quit writing and calling me. She eventually gave me positive feedback.

After this incident I was fed up with Ebay. I was mad that they freely gave out my phone number like they did, I was mad at all the high fees they charge to sell items, and I was also mad at how high the fees were for receiving payments on PayPal. I sold about $1,000 in stuff on Ebay this past month and I paid ebay and paypal over $200+ dollars in fees! After talking to my husband we decided it was best to give up selling on Ebay, to cancel the account, since I was also buying a lot of items and wasting even more money.

Today is December 7th, and I woke up early this morning to find a nasty email in my inbox. hitechbank filed a claim on paypal saying that he never received the item, that I must have mailed it to the wrong address, that my ebay account has been canceled, and it is obvious that I stole his money. HE ALSO sent me an email saying:

I think you sent my item to a wrong address. I need your reponse immediately regarding the shipment of this item. My address is in Fremont, CA and you shipped it to New York. Here is tracking information sent by you earlier:

Label/Receipt Number: 0305 0830 0003 2409 6876

Status: Acceptance

Your item was accepted at 2:19 PM on November 29, 2006 in BUCHANAN, NY 10511. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

If I don't hear from you within 24 hours, I will have to open a dispute with Paypal.

THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT!!! I did not ship it to NY, I shipped it from NY! I shipped it from the Buchanan Post Office in Buchanan, NY on Nov, 29th at 2:19PM! Status: Accepted means the package was accepted for shipment! How stupid can you be??

Now Paypal has debited the $325 from my account which now shows a negative $325 as the balance. This is not fair! It's not my fault that this guy is an idiot! I submitted the tracking number to Paypal, and now above the claim info it displays "We have contacted the shipping company and the information they provided shows the item is still in transit. Once the package is delivered we will review this case and make a decision."

WHY DOES MY ACCOUNT STILL SHOW NEGATIVE $325??? If they see that the item is still in transit why can't they clear that up? This ebayer is an ignorant fool who does not know how to use a delivery confirmation number. I even submitted him some old tracking #'s from packages I mailed weeks ago to show him how it looks when items have been delivered. It will read status: delivered not status: accepted.

This is exactly why you shouldn't sell on ebay and accept payments through paypal. Paypal will only end up screwing you because they can't distinguish the crooks from honest people! What's worse is that this guy can turn around and tell paypal he still never received the item probably. STAY AWAY FROM EBAY AND PAYPAL!

Thanks for your opinion Mike...but it means squat to me....yes, I know if you BUY something on Ebay and you DONT receive it you have the right to file a claim with paypal....but d**n...the item was mailed only 6 days BEFORE he filed the claim! Give time for the package to make it's way from NY to CA!!! The same day I shipped the item I sent this guy his tracking # so he knew from day one when and where the package was sent. And it's not like he sent me an email at first just asking why the package wasn't there yet or whatever...he sent me an email accusing me of sending the package to NY (where I mailed the box from) and that I STOLE his money! You didnt read what he sent to paypal about me, he told paypal I STOLE his money! He is an IDIOT! There is something fishy going on with this guy. He is brand new to Ebay, and has 4 different names and address associated with his ebay account and paypal account, not to mention his phone number is listed under a different name. He has bought something like 11 computers in the past week. For him to wait 6 days after me mailing the box and file a claim with paypal saying I STOLE HIS MONEY is ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous! I have been a member of ebay for 3 years with 100% positive feedback. I have sold things that cost more on ebay than this laptop, so if I wanted to make stealing money my hobby then I'd have been doing it all a long. Now my paypal account is frozen, I can't send payments from it, and it's all because this guy is an idiot. That's like me buying something on ebay, getting a tracking # showing the package has been shipped and is in transit, and then calling up Paypal or my credit card company and getting the transaction canceled. That my friend is what a thief is.... You better believe me, if this bozo does not drop his bogus claim when he gets his package, I will contact the authorities and I will sue him in civil court.

Lisa, it's a catch 22 with ebay/paypal

Lisa, Unfortunately, if you do not use paypal, you will sell next to nothing on ebay. It is a nessessary evil. The fact that you cancelled your ebay account will cause you trouble with settling your paypal claim. This looks like fraud to them. And keep in mind, paypal is owned by ebay. What were your stated shipping terms? If you stated next day and then did it 2 days later, they will find in the other parties favor. I have found that GOOD communication is essential in ebay transactions. Send emails to buyers as soon as auction closes, as soon as you recieve payment, as soon as you ship the item, etc. Good luck getting your money back.

How dare you call this man an idiot. You shipped him an item, it hasn't been delivered, he filed a claim. That's the way it works. It doesn't matter whether you can prove it was SHIPPED, you have to prove it was DELIVERED. If you bought something online and they shipped it but you never got it, wouldn't YOU expect to get a refund or some other form of satisfaction? Your money will be returned to your account upon proof of DELIVERY.

Never delivered

Lisa, Your tracking information shows that while it was accepted on Nov 29th in NY, it WAS NEVER DELIVERED. Therefore the buyer is correct in filiing a claim. It is now up to you to follow up with the post office. Since it was a laptop, did you insist on insurance? I don't understand why you are condemning Ebay and Paypal when it appears as though your issue should be with the US Post Office. As for you saying this: "This ebayer is an ignorant fool who does not know how to use a delivery confirmation number. I even submitted him some old tracking #'s from packages I mailed weeks ago to show him how it looks when items have been delivered. It will read status: delivered not status: accepted." The only one who is coming off as ignorant is YOU. He is using the tracking number YOU sent him the RIGHT WAY. Your item appears to be taking an extraordinary amount of time to get to this man, and he is concerned. You calling him names shows me just what kind of ebay seller you were, and trust me when I tell you that those good ebayers, such as myself, prefer those sellers liek yourself stay off ebay as you give us a bad name. Put yourself in his shoes, wouldn't YOU start to worry? I gurantee you 99.9% of the people reading this would too.
