I clicked on a link to hotmoviesale.com while searching for a DVD. I can't remember which search engine I was using at the time. The DVD was offered at a price of $9.81 as long as I signed up for a trial membership in their club for $1.00 per month. There was no indication of what full membership entailed and I assumed I would be given details in my email confirmation. The email only showed the sale of the DVD, and I kept wondering when I was going to get the details of the membership.
I was contacted by my credit card company about a week later and was told that a charge for $29.95 was being put on my card by smartsavingscenter.com. I wasn't sure what it was and asked for their phone number.
After calling the number, and researching, I discovered that they sent me an email which had been swept into my spam folder because it didn't recognize
smartsavingscenter.com. It stated that my temporary membership expired in 7 days and that they were charging $29.95 to my card. If I didn't notify them I wanted to cancel before the 7 days ended, I would not be refunded my membership fee.
I called them. I had to wait 30 minutes before anyone answered. They refused to credit my account. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was refused. I asked them for a physical address, but all they would give me was a P.O. Box.
I doubt my credit card company will help me out on this, because I initiated the sale.
