Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I am a German Shepherd Dog owner and have been loving with dogs since my childhood, almost 30 years. I have used many dog boarding kennels, pet hotels and have never had issues with regard to reservations or charges.

This Christmas time I wanted to leave my dog to a place called Houndhouse for the first time. Naturally went to see the place where I would leave my son (I have no children and my dog is my child) stay for over 2 weeks. It was not the best pet hotel I have seen, no proper office to sit and talk with bussiness owner, grooming side was not so clean and was right near where paper work is done.

In anyway I wanted to book and for the first time I was asked 300 CAD deposit to book, and also the owner asked me "Is he allowed to spend upto 5000 CAD health expense in case an emergency such as an urgent operation..?" Literally he asked me to waive such amount, and expected me to feel comfortable leaving my dog with him. Although I gave the a cheque, I felt very uncomfortable with the attitude of this place. The day I was suppose to bring my dog, I had an emergency which meant not to travel for vacation this time. I gave a call to Kennel, and asked to transfer this deposit to a future stay. The answer was "Your emergency is not my problem, I have mortgage to pay...!" Additionally, the bussiness owner threatened me with all the amount of reservation should be paid.

If you kindly take a look at some popular Kennels such as www.Countrysidekennel.ca, you would realize they actually charge the fee for one night of your dogs stay 20 CAD as penalty, or if this happens during busy times such as Christmas you would have to pay 40 CAD as cancellation fee if the cancellation happens less than 48 hours.

I urge everyone to be careful with people who try to take advantage of clients, or even more innocent creatures such as animals to make money. Because the moment when you want to trust someplace with your family member, your pet, they will try to take advantage of you. This issue has been brought to attention of Consumer Protection, as it seems that there is no control on papers some of these "so called" kennels prepare and have us sign. If everyone does whatever he/she thinks is good for them, I think laws and respect to each other would become meaningless.

Thank you for reading my story
