We enrolled our 14 year old daughter into the ID Tech Alexa Cafe program. The program was entitled "Photo Booth: Pro Photography for Instagram". The expectation from this course was that our child would being provided instruction on how to operate a DSLR camera, import photos, and be able to edit photos using Lightroom and Photoshop. Our daughter was given a certificate from the school at the end of the week class outlining the skills they were supposedly taught. After our daughter arrived him she told us she walked away from this course learning nothing we went 1 by 1 through each line of the certificate to ask our daughter which skills she learned. It was shocking to hear from her that she didn't even know what half of the items were. The cameras didn't operate properly and that the instructor didn't know how to use them so she gave a brief description of camera modes. The kids were not given any instruction on how to use the cameras, aperture, modes, etc. They also did not receive any education on the software programs other than how to open them. I called to complain to the school and they blamed my child for not speaking up about the lack of instruction. They said she should have told them that they were not providing her the knowledge to use the cameras and software. My daughter said they spent more time playing group games then learning the objectives of the class. She is a smart kid and not very outspoken. She said when they were given surveys she felt intimidated to make any comments because the counselors where there when they filled them out. She felt bad to say anything. It is not my child's responsibility to ensure that the instructors are doing their job. These camps are very expensive and I would have expected a significantly higher level of achievement. My daughter was very excited to go to this camp and learn some basic photography and editing skills. She came away feeling deflated and let down.
