Ignatius Press Had Refused To Refund My Money On Mail Order Item, Claimed Their Items Are Not Sold On Approval! What?? Internet
Has anyone heard of a mail-order sales term called "Items Not Sold On Approval"?
I live in Rhode Island and recently made an online purchase (with my debit card) for a 10-inch statue of Mother Mary from Ignatius Press. I had later searched for their actual address after receiving the purchase and couldn't find any address listed on their website.
The statue I had recieved arrived safely and promptly but I hadn't been happy at all with what I had received. Parts of the face and the eyes of the statue hadn't resembled the web-site image I had seen on their web-site. I immediately called their Customer Service department to ask how to return the item properly for a refund. Customer Service had told me that they don't issue refunds as their items are not sold on approval. I politely told them I had rights and one lady had told me I hadn't any! At that point I had been in shock that they would even dare say such a thing especially coming from religious folks?
I hadn't read about their no-refund policy. I hadn't heard of such a thing on small, low-value, non-electronic mail order items. I couldn't believe a no-refund policy could exist on an undamaged, non-expensive, non-electronic item where the refund request was made the very hour it had been delivered!
They hadn't advertised their unusual return policy on their regular web-site pages but I must admit, it had been listed on their terms and conditions page. I hadn't suspected an unusual policy and I feel they should have at least advertised it more clearly to unsuspecting customers who have trusted any online religious stores as having good sales morals and good sales practices! What are those people thinking???
