ING Direct has nothing to do with this scam. If the scam used their name, it was fradulently. I bank with ING, and am very satisfied. So...why was their named used?

I've been seeing more scams like this in the wild. Chances are the check is from another company unrelated to the "lottery" company that sent you the letter. The check may even be good, but stolen, there's an active scam I"m actually following right now that sounds just like this. Since it came in the mail its now mail fraud so you might want to get the postal inspector people involved. No legit lottery or sweepstakes will actually ask you to pay a fee up front. Once you cash the check (and I wouldnt cause now that puts you in the hot seat as well), they will ask you to send the money of course, check comes back hot, the scammer gets paid, you have negative bank account. I hope you reported it to the right people, good luck.
