Driving up the coast highway towards San Francisco we ready to stop for the night before visiting the Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The going rate for the holiday weekend was 126.00 thru 153.00. That rate can be verified on the internet with almost any hotel finder. We asked for a room & they charged us 216.00 for a total peace of junk. I'm 6'2" & had to bend over to take a shower. There was not even a clock/radio in the room. It had a clean bed & that was it. It was one of the worst rooms I had ever stayed in. It was late & we did not want to contiue to look. The next day we drove up the coast & found a lovely room in the Carmel/Monterey area for 89.00 per night. I certainly hope that anyone that sees this will not stay there. If I could find a web site where I could file a complaint directly to the hotel i would. Please stay away from one of the worst hotels on the coast.

IMPORTANCE OF ADVANCED RESERVATIONS

#2Consumer Suggestion

Thu, July 27, 2006

Based on my experiences as a hotel employee, I would implore anyone needing a hotel room to always make an advance reservation. This is especially true during busy holiday weekends, weekends during the summer, etc. In fact, it is always a good idea to make hotel reservations. Since you can never be sure what is going on in a particular area (conventions, special events, etc) at a particular time, it is always wise to make an advance reservation. Last night, on a Wednesday, a family told me they had travelled for four hours looking for a hotel room. Fortunately, we had one available for them. In addition, it is a good idea to book a room in advanace if you have special needs or requests, e.g,.a non-smoking room, two adjoining rooms, a room within a certain price range, etc. AAA also recommends always making an advance reservation for hotel rooms. I hope this information was helpful to someone.
