international sports club scams handicapped minors!! won't release even when they move to alaska!!!! lafayette, Indiana
some lizard that works there signed my 17 YO, mentally handicapped son up for a 3 year membership... told him "not to tell his mom till a few weeks after he turned 18", so he obeyed.... like the good LD/ mentally handicapped kid that he is... when he told me, i came unglued- & immediately called "international" (lol, like lafayette, IN is the hub of urbane, sophisticated commerce ;))
"sports" (cuz it's so sporting to hunt down the neurologically disadvantaged & rope them into 3 years, with a recurring, automatic renewal for 3 years at a time clause!!!!) club & i told them that he as mentally disadvantaged; that he hadn't understood the 'fine print'; lol; cuz he was actually incapable of such a thing :D
'hire a lawyer' they told me.... i pointed out that he had signed on the dotted line a few weeks before his 18th birthday.... i heard a gasp; then i was put on hold.... then 'get a lawyer' i was told.... so we didn't fight... a lawyer?!?! seriously??? a few grand to fight a few grand in 'international' (lol) 'Sports' (lol) club fees?? so.....
a few months before the contract ran out... (Which I was on top of; cuz there's only 1 way to cancel that 'automatic 3 year renewal' thing he signed up for.... and that's to send in the cancellation notice EXACTLY- to the hour & day- of a certain length of time before it automatically renews..... (READ YOUR CONTRACT!! IT BLOWS!!) anyway, my son moved in with my brother in anchorage, AK, to start work on the pipeline....
i brought "I" (lol) "S" (lol) C his membership card (required in their fine print) alaska driver's licence (required in their fine print), a check stub form his job in alaska (required in his fine print), his rent receipt from his apt in alaska (a bonus i graciously provided), along with the IN code on signing minors up & legal precedents saying I(lol)S(lol)C was in violation of the law & the standards of decency )again; i was kind enough to clue them in)......
& it all scared the kid behind the desk.... & he said he'd get his boss to call me.... NOPE!! i went in there the next day, 'GET A F****KIN LAWYER!!' he told me. since my LD, mentally challenged kid, that couldn't understand the fine print enough to decipher the fine print.... & since he didn't "own property" in Alaska, he was still locked in.
i am still homicidally pissed..... so!! if you're looking for a place that preys on the handicapped, look no further!! they got a pool!! moving to Alaka?? cool!! you still have to make payments on your contract!! they will sue you otherwise!!! motherf*ckers!!!!

Kind of like LA Fitness right?
It is truly amazing how many complaints and ripoff reports are written about LA Fitness because they partake in all of the deceiving practices you listed below and best of all THEY DONT CARE. That is why places like this and pissed consumer are ruining new clients from joining LA Fitness because they dont care about their customers.
In the end LA Fitness will go out of business because they didnt repair or fix their image or their deceptive practices.

Health Clubs are notorious for their contracts. Most of the time these complaints are because instead of reading what the contract says in writing, people trust what the salesperson says.
While you appear to have had a valid complaint on the fact that he wasn't 18 yet, you seem to be trying to bring in more "sympathy" because your son according to you is suffering from a Mental Disability. But based on your comments one has to wonder how disabled he actually is.
So how did he get signed up? Did these people just ambush your son on the street forcing him to sign or did your son go to them?
If your son is unable to understand what he is signing how did he get access to a Checking Account/Credit Card for the contract, because most of these contracts require one to do the automatic deductions.
Then this was a 3 year contract but it wasn't found out until a few months before it ended. So how did these deductions get missed? There is someone monitoring the finances of your Mentally Disabled son..right?
Also as a side note that may be a bit disturbing. You are now saying that your Mentally Disabled son who has trouble understanding is now working on the (Alaska?) Pipeline. Well I just hope he is not doing any "critical" functions. What may be even scarier is that your Mentally Disabled son also has an Alaska DRIVERS license. Where the point is that if he is able to get a Drivers license and get a job on the pipeline, he probably is able to understand fine print.
Again..not saying that you didn't have a case because he was under 18 on the original contract, but the whole Mental Disability just seems like a sympathy ploy.

Really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at the spa. When I was out in Las Vegas at the spa at one of the resorts on the strip I had a similar experience being handicapped and all. Really sorry to hear about that and I hope it doesnt happen to you again.
