I purchased a parcel of land on ebay for $820 plus $200. I sent postal money orders for the amount.

Days after purchase, we received a certified letter stating that the property I purchased had back taxes owed for years 2009 - 2012. The tax lien for total back taxes owed is $2646.18. The letter states that without coming up with the full $2646.18, this land will be auctioned off at a tax deed sale on May 14, 2014. After contacting the seller, he stated that he entered our names on the title so I'm getting a great deal regardless of the fact that the property is about to be auctioned off.

Nowhere in the auction did it state that this amount was owed in back taxes or I wouldn't have bought it. Additionally, I discovered that the 2013 taxes had not been paid. The seller's website http://www.islandforsalebyowner.com which is referenced on the auction page states that back taxes are guaranteed paid. I can't believe I fell for this scam. Clearly, the sellers wanted to make a quick buck before losing the land completely. Can't believe this is in any way legal.

Now I know why the seller refused to accept PayPal.

Sorry, but you're not entitled to your own facts.

You did not post that the property had a tax lien. Your auction post was inaccurate on the amount of taxes due yearly. Taxes haven't been paid since 2009. It doesn't matter if this land is worth 100k, your argument is invalid. It is worthless to us and will be auctioned off May 14, 2014. We just padded your pockets for nothing.

Furthermore, your website referenced in bold on the auction page, thereby connecting your company to the auction. If you do not want your business website and "guarantee" associated with your auction listing, why would you place it there? Do you think that collecting a fast $1100 from a disabled veteran honorable and ethical?

Where is our refund?

The poster is misleading, the ebay add specifically stated a disclosure to do all appropriate research before bidding on the porperty (which was being auctioned off). The property (2 lots), assessed at $8,100.00, was being auctioned specifically because of back taxes. The website has nothing to do with the ebay add and is a seperate entity.

From the ad specifically:

"BY BIDDING ON OUR AUCTION, BIDDER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY HAVE DONE THEIR OWN RESEARCH, DUE DILIGENCE, INSPECTION PERIOD, THOROUGHLY HAVE INSPECTED THE PROPERTY, INCLUDING VISITING THE PROPERTY, CONTACTING LOCAL MUNICIPAL, AND COUNTY GOVERNMENTS, SELLER MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES IN ANY MANNER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AND BUYER AGREES TO THE TERMS LISTED IN THIS AUCTION, AND INDEMNIFY SELLER TO ANY CLAIMS AS TO BUILDABILITY, SETBACKS, ELEVATIONS, OR SIZE OF THE PROPERTY.   SELLER WILL SELL THE PROPERTY IN AN AS-IS CONDITION REGARDLESS OF THE PRICE. ALL DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE"
