About two months ago we ordered an electric blanket from Penney's via the Internet. Shortly after we started getting calls from a Ben Stonebridge who is unknown to us. We are on a no call list. We had no idea who he was and didn't answer the calls.

Last month I noticed a bill on my credit card for $9.95 and wondered who that could be. I meant to ask my wife if she knew but just forgot about it and never asked. This month the same charge returned. I did an Internet search only to find this is a ripoff that has been implemented by JC Penney Co. to rip off their customers. This apparently happens if you accept their offer of an instant rebate in the amount of $9.95. No where are you informed that the rebate comes with a recurring charge of the same amount.

There is a phone number to call: 888-527-6839 which is supposed to be answered 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM M-F and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sat. There is also an email address: [email protected] . Presumably either may be used to cancel the account but I am sure neither will get your money back. I am waiting until Monday to see if they even respond. In the mean time I am telling my credit card company to stop payment.

because facts arent always true, simply statements which can be proven or disproven. call 1 800 542 0800 its jcpenney credit services, but it doesnt matter where the charges appear. ask for leisure plus they transfer you you ask to discontinue service, say u never signed up, most important, ask for credit. done

The follow up for what happened after I called the 888 number and canceled the account on Dec 3. is that the woman I spoke with said she would cancel it. Just to make sure she did, I called the number back after I had talked to the company rep. and checked the status of my account using their automated service and it said the account was canceled. I had also written an email on Dec. 2nd to [email protected] telling them to cancel my account. I got a reply on the 5th saying the account was canceled on the 3rd and that a one month charge would be credited to my account. Yesterday I received my credit card statement and it shows a charge, not a credit, of $9.95 was posted on 12/4/07. I had already called the credit card company and told them the previous charges were disputed and to not pay them. I called today to report the latest in the situation and the credit card company closed my credit card account and they are opening a new account for us. This is probably the most expedient way to keep these crooks from charging your credit card account. They are obviously hard core scam artists. Clearly so is J. C. Penney. Hard to believe but the facts indicates they are.
