I opened a JC Penney account in November, 2015. In January I noticed that my due date was the 2nd of each month. That doesn't work for me since my Social Security check isn't direct deposited until the 3rd. When I called Penneys, I was told that my new due date would be changed to the 4th.
In February, 2016, I went online to pay my bill on the 3rd and found that a late charge had been added. I called and went through their absolutely endless process to reach a live person. I was again promised my due date would be changed.
Long story short: To date, June, 2016, it has not been changed. Each month I was charged a late charge and I admit they did back a few of them out but they could not change the amount due...meaning I had to pay the same amount as I would have paid had I paid the late charge. My balance was 121.41 so my payment should have been $25 or so.,..instead it was $40 to $42 every month.
I've had JC Penneys accounts in the past and have never had a problem before this one but when the last CSR I spoke with promised that it would be changed next month, I told him I didn't believe him and I just wanted my account closed.
I was an Accounts Payable person for a good many years (and we're talking many, many years ago when computer programs were no where near as sophisticated as they are now) and it was a very simple proceedure for me to change an amount due. I can't make up my mind if their CSRs are stupid, lazy or if they've been instructed to get as much as they possibly can from each customer every month but I will never, ever shop at Penney's again.
