Today,  I was relieved to find a place to do my Pennsylvania state inspection.  I had just retired from the Army, and in the relocation process,  failed to realize my inspection expired during the labor day weekend. Initially the Jack Williams people seemed friendly enough. They told me my car would be done by noon. At 10am, they called to let me know that my car didn't pass inspection due to the fact that THREE of my tires were too worn and one of my ball joints was loose. The total would be just under $500 for the ball joint and two tires. The third tire was really iffy,  but needed to be changed too and would be another $90.

How could this be?!  I only bought all four tires within the last six months,  and I got my alignment done at the same time. There is No way my four tires with 50,000 mile road warranty could have been worn so badly. My trip to work weekly was maybe 250-300 miles on the highway almost exclusively.

As soon as I told them I would pick the car up with the failed inspection, they told me I still had to pay the twenty dollars and then they hung up on me.  I immediately took my car to several inspection places to get the car reinspected. Able Auto just down the road in Tobyhanna,  Pa did the inspection on the spot and recognized the relatively new tires (in good condition) and did not find a loose ball joint.  They even helped me fix a problem I was having with a contact on my left turn signal light. I spent thirty dollars on the inspection and twenty on the light repair. That's more than a $500 savings on what Jack Williams was trying to get from me.

I swear that behind the counter at Jack Williams is a poster stating a pledge to NOT frivolously charge or sell anything that isn't needed and that a senior technician or manager would verify every proposed charge,  and that a technician would completely explain every service recommended.  The explaining never happened,  and if a manager or senior technician inspected my vehicle,  then corruption obviously starts at the top and trickles down.
