Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We sought to purchase a male newfie and we were told that the pup we named Takoda was purebred. We were provided photos, phonecalls, emails.  We explained that we had issues with the last pup we purchased because she was not as healthy as we were hoping for they wanted to reassure us repeatedly that baby Takoda was wonderfully cared for, that though he was a little small and didn't have long hair they would even exchange him.  We said we were looking for a small newf and being in FL he would never develop the really full coat of a northern newf anyway.  That should have been our first clue but we were blinded by love of our new pup.

We were told that papers would be sent, would be sent, that they'd forgot to send them, then after receipt of our baby they weren't available. Though we were upset by this and chalked it up to lessons learned because the Wiggs refused to even acknowledge phone calls or emails after this point.  But then a new source of stress was provided when Takoda began limping at 6 months of age.   We assumed that it was a sprained ankle - little did we know the painful ride we were in for...

After taking him to the vet, he went thru xrays where his entire shoulder thru hock was x-rayed. The x-rays were examined by a radiologist specialist and 2 orthopedic veterinarian specialists after which a determination of OCD was provided.  I have included a short description as provided by (((link redacted))).  The information was same as provided by the vets - it is genetic and the parents should not have been bred let alone selling of the pups.  Takoda has now been under vet's care for the last 3 months, 2.5 weeks to try the 'conservative method' to see if rest would help the situation, then surgical intervention to rebuild his right shoulder.  He has been diagnosed in both shoulders but the right was much worse so as of yet we haven't had to have surgery in the left.  Obviously we also have to have him neutered so there is no chance that this disease spreads, but for a little man only 7 months of age he's spent more than 1/2 of it in and out of vets, having pain, taking meds and then surgery and a long healing process during which he's basically not allowed out of house except under strict control so he doesn't stress his limbs during rehab.

We love our little man, but as many vets/breeders etc. have advised, this is a condition that was KNOWN about and yet they bred and chose to sell us the pup anyways.  The least they could have done was reimburse us the cost of the dog to at least attempt to pay for the veterinary bills that are continuing to mount.

Osteochondritis dessicans (OCD) is a hereditary disease that is characterized by cracks and flaps in articular cartilage, which cause inflammation, joint instability, pain, lameness, and degenerative joint disease.

Endochondral ossification is the process by which cartilage on the ends of long bones (e.g., humerus, femur) ossifies, or changes to bone. If cartilage does not calcify properly, it thickens and prevents synovial fluid from reaching cartilage cells beneath it. Without synovial fluid, the cells degenerate and die, causing cracks in the cartilage. The cracked cartilage is weak and does not adequately attach to the bone, and the bone does not reach its full length. During movement, the cracked cartilage causes pits and abrasions to form on the bone.

Cartilage cracks can deepen and one or more small pieces of cartilage may loosen, resulting in flaps that may calcify. Cartilage flaps rub against underlying tissue, causing pain, lameness, and eventually degenerative joint disease.
