Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On February 13th I went to JcPenny.com looking for a new bed for my son, I found the teen trends twin locker bed and was going to purchase it. The price was $299, while online my mail was delived and I recieved an advertisment(no products just a coupon code) from JcPenny's stating that they were having a Presidents day sale and they were offering an additional 15% off already reduced sale prices (they also have an on-going home sale right now), begining February 15th.

I decided I would take advantage of the additional discount and wait until the 15th to purchase the bed. When I went back to the website on the 15th I was shocked to find they had raised the price of the bed to $389! Now I know there are bigger fish to fry out there and much more serious things to report, but I think it is important for companies to be forth comming with people. I believe if we let companies get away with little things like this, they get the idea they can get away with a lot more.

I was enraged and decided to email customer support, I was asked for the item # from thier website and a full description of the product. I wrote " I'd just like to know why this bed was $90 less 2 days ago? The home sale is still on right? I wanted to purchase this bed and use the 15% off for presidents day sale, but when it came time for me to buy it the price went from $299 to $389. Is this what JcPenny's calls a sale, if so I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. So much for JcPenny's being a reputable company.... someone needs to fix this. I know I don't appreciate being ripped off, and I'm sure your other customers don't either".

Their response was "We apologize for the inconvenience, prices are subject to change at any time." Needless to say the response did not satisfy me in any way, so I emailed them back. "WOW! That's it? That's your reply? Prices are subject to change anytime? Really, even during a sale huh? I would expect this from an auto dealership or cheesy import furniture store, but JcPenny's... I never thought I would see the day where this company lost all it's dignity. To bad you became a sell out". They responded with "The item in question must be a retail store flyer your looking at, we are showing the item Online and in our Catalog for the sale price of $389.00. Please check you flyer to ensure it's not something being offered by the retail store. You will need to order the item with them in order to receive the sale price and the discount they are offering".

Now everyone can be a little nutty, but I am not stupid or confused about where I saw the price (given that I live in a town of less than 3000 people and our local JcPenny store carries clothes, shoes, pillows, and some towels, everything else here must be ordered through a catalog or online). Again I emailed them back, "I assure you the item is from JcPenny.com, on February 13th the price of the Teen trends twin locker bed was $299. On February 15th (the date the 15% off coupon for Presidents day became effective) the price on the bed was $389.00. Really, I am not that naive or confused. Just be aware I will be reporting your business practices to ripoffreports.com, I feel it is important that the public know how your company conducts its sales".

Their response "We do apologize for the confusion of flyer sales being offered in Retail stores and what is offered Online. We welcome your comments and suggestions, and encourage you to write to us anytime". Go figure, they can't seem to understand english. There was never any retail flyer, only a discount offer. Guess I'm just naive and slow.

I encourage everyone who hates being ripped off by companies that raise thier prices for a sale, to email, write, or call JcPenny's and let them know you won't put up with tactics like these. I have been a customer of JcPenny's since I was a child and my mother took me there, I haven't noticed these types of practices before (although I never looked for them).

I expect under-handed things like this from auto dealers and cheesy furniture stores full of imports, but for a company that in my opinion is supposed to have a higher standard....there is no excuse for things like this.
