while shopping at the jewel food store on 12/13/09. i was looking at porterhouse steaks at 6.41 lb i believe. closer look showed just a sliver of fliet mignon on the opposite side of the strip. a poterhouse has to have the whole filet, otherwise its a t-bone steak. i tried to bring it to the meat manager and was told a bunch of bs. that as long as the "porterhouse" has an inch of flilet on it, it can be labeled as such. how is jewel getting away with selling t-bone steaks at porterhouse prices? then another meat market employee tried telling me that they were doing customers a favor because t-bones sell for 1 dollar more a pound. are these people in trained in meat cutting?

john, i am glad you saw the same thing as i did. they are truly ripping off the public by doing this with the meat. more people need to be aware of what albertsons are doing. i stopped buying meat from there all together,but it still bothers me when i see them doing that to people that dont know any better

I have found the same thing at stores in Schaumburg and Elk Grove. The most recent being at the Elk Grove store on Sunday, June 20.
I have spoken with management at the store and corporate levels. For example, I faxed Jewel's President, Keith Nielsen about the practice last March, as well as Craig Herkert, Supervalues' President and CEO. Supervalues is Jewel's parent company. I know that both individuals are aware of my correspondence, per their respective Administrative Assistants.
Last Sunday, I found numerous packages that were nothing more than New York Strip steaks. I do not exaggerate, and based on the report that has been posted here, I think that the Attorney General should consider investigating the report that I filed with them two weeks ago. Otherwise, they will sit on it until they get ample complaints...I do not know how much that number has to be.
