First of all, I took a vehicle to get an estimate on repairs. I got an estimate and thought it was somewhat high. I went to pick up the vehicle and was informed at that time I had to pay a check charge which was not disclosed to me at the time I inquired about the estimate. My vehicle was locked in A gated area and assumed it would be locked up till I paid. During further questioning, I found out that the parts he was going to use were rebuilt. And I had to ask for him to disclose this information. He never would admit the parts he was going to use were rebuilt. He used the words remanufactured after I questioned. He also quoted me a price on the parts that were outrageous. I had already priced my own parts prior to picking up my vehicle. I was also informed that they replaced a part on the vehicle that I did not authorize. Before they would release my vehicle they informed me they were taking the part off they had put on, which they never told me what the part was even for! I feel this company not only was with holding information from me about the charges but not being honest and making me believe the parts were going to be brand new. I believe he was being deceptive. They also were going to charge an astronomical price and then couldn't guarantee my problem would be fixed ! I feel this company was completely irresponsible and not honest and would not recommend anyone take their vehicle for an estimate. Since then, I had my vehicle repaired at a reasonable price with brand new parts and it was guaranteed.

I have been repairing cars for over 30 years. Many repairs of SYSTEMS, like the A/C, rely on many components working properly in concert to perform properly.  Maybe the Compressor was all the problem, maybe the sensor and the compressor was.  There is NO WAY to tell if the system will be restored by replacing one known defective part.  The repair shop was correct.  Furthermore if one shop wanted to replace just the compressor and leave in the old receiver/drier, it would be cheaper and an incorrect repair.
The FIRST shop was right, you can't diagnose with X-ray vision, it takes time, so it costs money.  Additionally there is NO WAY the second repair shop could know that by just replacing the compressor (which I don't believe was new) that the system would not need any additional work. Lucky GUESS.

I wasn't sure how specific I should be. It was a 1990 Ford Aerostar van. I took the van in because the air was not working. We knew it already had a leak and that it would more than likely need a new compressor. When I called the shop and asked if they could give me an estimate on the repairs. I was told to bring the vehicle in and they would look at it, so I did. He gave me an estimate of 900$ and said he couldn't guarantee it would work. I was not happy with what he said. I asked if that meant his work was not guaranteed. He stated his work was but he just couldn't guarantee the air would work. Because of this comment, I went to pick up the van to go elsewhere for my estimate. When I got there he told me there was a check charge of 77$. I asked for what? He stated to check the vehicle. I asked, just for checking and he stated yes. I told him that I should have been informed there was a charge for getting an estimate. He stated that all repair shops charge for an estimate. I stated again that I should have been told about the fee. I paid the fee and told him I just wanted to get my van. He stated I could not get it until they took off this switch they put on. I didn't authorize them to do any work to the van. I just wanted an estimate. I had to leave and come back to pick up the van later. I felt like this repair place just wasn't honest in telling me there would be a fee to just check the vehicle. I also asked if he could write down his cost of the repairs and asked if it would be less expensive to get a rebuilt compressor. He then stated that his estimate was on a re manufactured compressor. I was under the impression the parts were new. He never mentioned anything about re manufactured. I had to ask twice if he meant rebuilt before he said yes. I did take my van to another place and ended up with 834$ a guarantee my air would work plus all new parts. No re manufactured anything. And a lifetime warranty. I felt this company was being very deceptive and not disclosing all the required information. If I would have let them repair my van, I would have had rebuilt parts and no guarantee I would even have air. That just wasn't worth 900$ to me. I hope this has helped with any confusion in my first report.

Angela is mad because her perfectly running car was stolen by a repair facility and then held hostage until she paid their bill. The shop even had the audacity to try and make a profit...what nerve! The shop should have sold her the parts for what they paid, or even less. They even wanted to use remanufactured parts instead of the higher priced new parts. Good job Angela. You showed them. Seriously...what is your actual complaint?

This is a report that does give anyone a clue what you are having an issue about. It helps if you tell the readers what kind of vehicle you have, along with engine size and mileage. It also gives support to your report to write why you took in the vehicle for service. What was it that caused it to be taken for service. What were the parts that needed to be replaced? What type of diagnostics did they charge you for and at what cost? What were the prices that the shop quoted as well as the prices that you ended up paying at another shop to fix? Without including any of the necessary info in your ROR post, it is difficult for anyone to understand where the rip-off is. You have made a complaint without giving any information to support it.
