I feel so sad for you, this site is brilliant in the fact that people such as yourself report these experiences, I only wish there was a way people could find out before it happens to them. I was also ripped off for $14,000.00 by a so called Board Certified Tax expert, which put me in trouble with the IRS, where I ended up owing $760,000.00 yes 760k, when I'd paid all my taxes and I fought the IRS for years over it, until finally American Tax Bureau, Inc. solved it for me, got it down to $99,000.00 now is getting it down to a very small amount of about $5,000.00 the only advice I can give for anyone reading this is: First of all, a free consultation is in order to determine how they can help you, i.e. listening to your problem and explaining what can be done about it. Secondly, how do they know what to charge you unless they've got all your files from the IRS, therefore sign a power of attorney to enable them to get the files, here it's ok to give a small retainer. they may ask for $250.00 they should also ask about your assets, and whether you own a home, how much equity you have, etc, only then should they determine whether a OIC is going to work or not. Third, it takes 6 weeks for the files to come from the IRS, then they can talk to you about what's involved and how much it may cost to solve your problems, and the time it may take, for an Offer in Compromise (OIC), it could take up to a year, and there is no guarantee that the IRS will accept it, and you should be told that, everyones situation is different. At this point they will tell you how much it is going to cost and sign a contract if you feel ok. I have learned so much about the process now that I could literally write for hours and hours on taxes and asset protection and credit repair, I've been through it all. The question is how could I possibly help people......???? I wish there was a site that not only blacklisted these Companies but praised the good ones who have morals and integrity. People who want a fair deal and don't want ripping off should go for the sites that have been recommended by others, I've been to several and the best one for my money is American Tax Bureau, Inc. his web site dosn't look much but they are going to get the job done for you. I know they've already had some JK Harris customers, you can find them at www.americantaxbureau.com By the way the Tax lawyers who ripped me off actually ended up getting fined by the IRS for 1 million dollars, and they settled out of court for $23,000.00, yet the IRS wouldn't let me off the hook, it took 5 years to get it down to 99k, another 2 years to get it down to where I'm at now, all my troubles are coming to an end, but I've crashed from being a rich dude, to nearly nothing because of all this, so anyone who tells me they're experts, means nothing to me, I'd rather go to sites where people say they're good, honest and get the job done.
