This report is about how an existing John Beal Roofing customer that had roofing problems ignored by several John Beal Roofing staff members and a manager, was again ignored by John Beal Roofing when the customer called with further problems to the existing problems many months later.
This report is about the initial part of the problem addressed to John Beal in April 2009 which had buckling roof boards and also included a roof leak issue.
The second part of the problem, posted as another Ripoff Report, is a catastrophic failure of the roof with water leaking right through and all along 50 foot of roofing after some snow in December 2009 when the roof was only 2 years old.
I purchased a roof from one of the oldest roofing companies in town, that had no bad reports against them at the BBB. I even provided them another large roof job. Both between $10,000 and $20,000 jobs each.
A rooftop pipe's flashing leaked sometime later. The company came out and repaired it. I was kind and let them off without claiming the costs of the interior ceiling damage. A week or 2 later I noticed other problems again that I had brought to the owner's attention while the roof was being installed. He had said they were just shingle settling issues, but now it was clear the problems weren't settling issues and were getting worse. Buckling boards under the shingles, in one place opening up a gap for water to enter the home.
I called them and the same lady "Heather" acted the same as she'd done and said someone would call at the house to fix it. There had been problems in the initial installation, but they always eventually came to correct it. In the prior repair call, when the man eventually arrived, the man did his work well and left. I just assumed they'd just get round to my job when they could this time.
Before I knew it winter was here. He hadn't called, and I thought I'd re-address it in spring. So in spring I called the company only to find out the real reason nobody arrived to fix the problem.
The company had merged into John Beal Roofing. They told me John Beal Roofing had taken over their roofing company, warranties, and they would fix the problem, and I should contact them and they provided the John Beal Roofing phone number. I called John Beal Roofing who confirmed it all. March 23, 2009 Sarah, who said Daniel would call to look at the problems tomorrow after 2pm. He seemed like a good caring worker, took photos, showed me the roofing problems on his digital camera, told me how good and caring the company is, then he left he had to talk to his boss and arrange the supplies for the job. He said he didn't know if he would be the one working on the job. He called back on the phone regarding tracking down the files they had taken from the other merged company.
That was the last I heard from him. I heard nothing and nobody worked on the house.
On April 1st I sent an e-mail outlining everything to the e-mail address they listed in the yellow pages: [email protected] but the servers indicated it was an invalid e-mail address.
I called them and Sarah provided an ordinary Yahoo e-mail account instead.
I e-mailed again and again and again, no response.
April 1st, 2nd, 6th and again that day after phoning Sarah asking them to respond to the e-mail, also asking for them to e-mail me the photos of the roof Daniel had taken.
I phoned John Beal Roofing - Sarah on April 6th, 2009.
I phoned John Beal Roofing Sarah on April 7th, 2009 John Beal would get right back to me...
I phoned John Beal roofing Daniel and asked for him to e-mail photos.
I have 3 other phone calls listed. John Beal roofing just wouldn't get back to me or provide the information requested.
Eventually, April 8th 2009, I think, which looks to be a Wednesday, Dan calls. He explained that he is in management and isn't the Daniel who's in repair. He came to the house to verify what Daniel had showed him. He agreed that plywood was warping and needed to be screwed down and some other things. There were enough areas with bulging shingles that I was concerned about the whole roof, and some bulges would appear in the summer heat too.
I wanted a peace of mind assurance that because the roof had been installed so badly they would come out an fix any future problem. Dan, John Beal Roofing's manager preferred a different approach, just fixing what was wrong and checking the rest, then leaving for good. I explained that I'd be very worried, as this approach didn't provide me peace of mind regarding this 40 year roof.
He said John Beal would fix the problems and he would discuss my broader concerns/requirements regarding the roof with Mr. John Beal. He left with written information from me regarding the make and color of shingles and underlayment.
He said he'd get back to me.
Dan of John Beal never got back to me. He left and never returned or called.
After Dan left the property and didn't return as he'd agreed, and Mr. John Beal himself didn't contact me either, it was very clear to me that John Beal Roofing was either very unreliable or they were deliberately avoiding the issues.
Dealing with John Beal Roofing between March 24th through April 8th had been total frustration.
I'd had phone calls ignored, e-mails ignored.
John Beal Roofing workers arrived and left, never to return,
and John Beal Roofing didn't do as they said.
Requests to John Beal Roofing were ignored.
John Beal Roofing promises were worth nothing.
John Beal Roofing lists the following. The information he promotes does not fit with the experience I'm having with the John Beal company. I will re-contact John Beal Roofing, present the Ripoff Report and hope to have peace of mind.
With this roof I am extremely scared every time it rains that the rest of the roof could fail at any time. I will never have peace of mind with this roof.

A roofer is responsible for putting on a roof that will both not leak and last for the shingle warranty. Wood replacement was required on this job and was not supplied. This is not the homeowner's fault.

You never said anything about how they installed it improperly all you did is take pictures. What exactly did they do wrong?
Unless the roofing company replaced the OLD underlayment (plywood, etc) then they are not responsible for any underlayment problem.
