I rented an apartment from Johnson Real Estate “sight unseen” as I was starting a new job in Fairfield on 9/8/2020. I paid $699 deposit to hold the apartment and another $699 first months rent plus $220 for utilities before moving in. I was told on the phone that it would be a month to month lease and that if I didn’t like it I could move out since I didn’t have a chance to see the apartment beforehand. I moved here from Kansas. Since the photos that were depicted on the internet looked okay I agreed.
When I arrived on 9/7/2020 and my GPS told me I had arrived at my destination I couldn’t believe it. The first thing I noticed was the dilapidated condition of the building. I also noticed the building was located roughly 250 feet from a railroad crossing. This was not mentioned in the online listing. When I entered the apartment there were the BUGS EVERYWHERE! I had to go to Walmart and purchase Ortho Home Defense and spray my way in before bringing in any belongings. When I realized there was no AC I messaged the only contact I had and was told she didn’t know how the AC worked, but that she’d have the maintenance person come by and show me.
Till this day I have no clue how the AC works, and it’s supposed to be warm again this week. Then on Wednesday 9/9/2020 I was woken up at 2:00am to the sound of water dripping. It was coming down in the middle of the apartment from the apartment above me. I reported this and was told it was repaired. It happened again the next night at 2:12am. On Friday I met with the maintenance person. I drove home to Kansas on Friday, but was assured through a text from the maintenance person the issue had been resolved.
I return on Sunday 9/13/2020 and guess what? Water was still leaking. Once again I called the only contact I have, to say I can’t live under these conditions. She told me I had signed a 6 month lease, and had to live under these conditions. I wish to have no further dealings with this company and want my money refunded. I have documented everything!
