A person contacted me from the Saatchi saleroom via email ([email protected]) They were inquiring about purchasing two works of art.
That person never told me where they were from after I inquired. Said they want to purchase 2 prints for $1450.
4/22/2008 I received a bank check for $4500 USD! Mailed from Carol Darby of Prototype Machine Company in Manchaca, Texas , drawn on a bank (Wachovia) from KITCO Fiber Optics, 5269 Cleveland St. Suite 110, Virginia Beach, Virginia, signed by Andrea Opple.
The person said they wanted to deal with me directly, and now wants me to wire the excess fund of $3050. USD to their "Private Shipping" company. After I received the check I did some research on the internet. The excess fund really drew my suspicions.
I read online about this scam on Christian Science Monitor: http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0806/p13s01-wmgn.html?page=1
The bank took the check, but we discussed the suspicious nature of the excess funds and they are holding the check to research it.
If the check clears, in about a week, then we decide how to move forward. I doubt it is legitimate.
