I recently took my daughters 1996 Eclipse to Just Brakes in Largo for there advertised "$99.00 Special". Once there the manager insisted that I wait until an inspection could be completed to tell me what was really wrong with the brakes.

While waiting I spoke with a young Lady waiting for her car who told me that she had come in for the special and was told that a several hundred dollar repair was necessary. About this time the mechanic working on my daughters car called me to the work bay to show me all the 'damage' that needed to be repaired, which totaled almost $500.00.

At this time I became suspicious as I had driven the car in and it was working just fine, I knew it needed new pads and shoes because of the noise it was making but other than that all was well.

I informed the mechanic that I was only interested in the advertised special and nothing else. The mechanic became very rude and insisted that the additional work be performed or a complete failure of the brake system on the car would occure.

After repeated attempts to convinced me to have the extra work performed, I told him NO for the last time and walked away.

Upon my return, well over an hour later, they still were not through with the work and once again tried to convince me to have the extra work done, again I told them no.

When they were finally done the mechanic came in with the bill on which he had listed all the repairs he had said were absolutly necessary, that I had refused, and said I had to sign it, I refused, paid for the $99.00 special and left.

Before getting out of the parking lot the brake pedal went to the floor and I had to pump the brakes to get them to work at all. I then took the car to another brake specialist, explained to him the story, and he agreed to look at the brakes.

This mechanic bleed the brake lines and made a minor adjustment and now the brakes work fine. He did say that the wrong type of pads were used, metallic instead of semi-metallic. He did not even charge me for the repair. He did ask that I file a report on the shoddy work performed by Just Brakes because they had a reputation of lying and ripping customers off.

Upon returning home I called Just Brakes and spoke with the manager and explained to him my story and told him he would next hear from me through my attorney. There was dead silence on the other end, he knew he was busted.

NEVER let these attempted murderers work on your brakes.

My neighborhood mechanic said nothing is wrong with the back brakes

Yesterday on October 10. I took my car to store #604 in Brandon Florida. Nate (my not so friendly brake rep) had advised my husband that the special included all those things you mentioned. My "good deal" quickly turned into $586.73. It was found by the brake guy (who made us wait to "see it ourselves") that I needed new rotors at $69 a pop and lets not forget that new front hardware I will need (another $30-40 I believe). I also need those calipers reconditioned but "not to worry" my brake inspector told me "at least they don't need to be replaced!" Working our way to the back, I also need new wheel cylinders. They were going to throw in that "disc hardware", shim kit, and return spring NOT for free. All of this on a 2000 Honda Accord. With my car still in the air, my husband told him to put the car back together and we were going to get a second opinion. They guy all but yelled "WHY ARE YOU HERE WASTING MY TIME? Long story short-We were then advised we must pay $110.09 for nothing or they can go ahead and "FINISH" what we had already agreed to. I guess I should have read that "inspection authorization" a little closer. We picked up the rotors at NAPA for $42 bucks and replaced them in less than 30 minutes in our garage.... of coarse now my "unauthorized repair" cost me my warranty. (woo h*o). My neighborhood mechanic said nothing is wrong with the back brakes. Some where along the way it became an issue if my husband was my husband or my "boyfriend" (dirty word - living in sin with our 2 children). I guess I should have brought my Marriage certificate along with my VISA. Oh and by the way WE HAVE THE SAME LAST NAME. I put a call into your friendly corporate office. Ivy is the receptionist. I was then transferred to Israel. Who listened to my side (although he did seem a bit inconvenienced by my call). The following morning I was informed by Israel that he would refund my Money, but it takes 6 -8 weeks and I had to go in person to pick it up from my buddy Nate at Store #604. To make an even longer story short many attempts were made to go above Israel to expedite our refund back to the credit card and not by check, but he did not have a superior until after the 10 the call and we spoke with good old Chris, who I'm sure that Israel just gave him a promotion on the spot. He claims he speaks with the board of directors... but I hope that Just Brakes would have more sense than to hire him as the Customer Service Department Manager. Oh and for the record, I was on Speaker. I'm sure that they got a good laugh at what asses we are. The VP I believe is Stuart Manning, we requested his Voicemail, but was advised that since they have "CALLER ID" and knew who we were, they would be unable to transfer us, although sweet Ivy did offer to pass a message along (right to the trash I'm sure). We made several attempts to gain access to Mr. Mannings VM, but they have it well guarded. I hope he reads this, since he is unable to rely on his own organization for honest information. He probably thinks that his company is looked at favorably to the public. John- have you even been to your company's website. You said we can email the president or VP ops. Or VP prod. I am sure that email is sent right to Ivy's or Israel desks. DELETE DELETE DELETE the bad ones and of coarse they are probably not too many good ones to forward. If you have another web site that the public is not aware of, feel free to share, but I have to tell you the only thing I see is a "comment" section. They do not even post the corporate address or a phone number. You seen like a nice guy and probably run the only honest store in the chain. I am finding out that experiences like mine are a dime a dozen, at least I am getting my money back. Although the 100 bucks will not change my life, the service is the worst we have EVER received from any company. And that I will remember, and so will all of my friends and their friends and their friends. And maybe it won't make a difference to your bottom line, but they can't go on forever this way. "YOU CAN SHEAR A SHEEP A HUNDREAD TIMES, BUT YOU CAN ONLY SKIN IT ONCE". Consumers are not stupid. It is impossible for every client that comes through JB's doors to have some other problem with their brakes. Look through your records, whats the ratio??? Thanks to an honest ex-employee (thanks Bucky C.); we now have the corporate office address. I am happy to share. 3810 West Northwest Hwy Suite 240 Dallas, TX 75220 and the phone number is 1-800-445-7105. Be sure to right it down, because these people (NATE) do not even know their managers lat names and I am sure do not have this phone number or address. Even if they did, it is pure HELL getting it from them. We had to pretend like we wanted to give a compliment to even get close. Heres hoping you guys dont go to Just Brakes. One last thing to work there is it a requirement that you be patronizing and rude? It must be.

Ok i have read several of the complaints aobut jb i have work for this company for about 5 years that is how long they have been in ga they have been in fla for about 1 1/2 years. i manage a shop in the ga area. yes 99.88 is a basic brake service (replaces pads and shoes machines rotors and drums, packs bearing, adjust and bleed the brake system and inspects the balance of the brake system for any other problems) that is a 4 wheel friction reline. and every car get that yes some could call more if the pads are not a stocking pad. most stores stock about 30k to 40k in parts and we do cover most cars but not every one. most of your brake manufactory's bendix wagner lucas ate girling just to name a few suggest that you rebuild or replace your replace you calipers every time you do brakes we tell you what is wrong with you car and what it will take to fix it. some things will be suggested. and you should not be forced or pressured in to a repair unless it is a safety issue. no one complains when they go to midas for there 39.95 brakes sale and then find out that you have to pay labor to get the pads install and when they call you back and tell you that you need other things for the brakes to work. so why should we get fussed at for tell you what is wrong with your car. a check up should be done about every 12 months or 12k miles. but that will depend on your driving habits and condidtions. in atlanta we suggest every 8 months or 12k miles for a bleed and adjust.this is good maintance and it cost 27.50 most cases. your brake fluid should be like apple juice or beer but i bet if you go look yours looks like coffee that is the breakdown of the rubber seals in the system. to the guy that said he had the wrong brakes put on his car to let you know there are not to many types of pads a metallic pad and semi-metallic pad is the same thing now you do have a low metallic pad that is considered an organic base pad. Just brakes has been in business in texas for over 25 years we have 135 stores nation wide and are opening stores all the time. we do have a web site where complaints can be reported and a good customer service dept to help if you do feel you have been done wrong. the web site lets you email the president of the company where do you thing the emails go? the vp of operations, vp of production, and pres. ceo and owner we are all corp. owned. leon i am sorry that you had a bad experence with just brakes. when you get your car inspected what do you really want to fix. the effect(squeak, squeal, grind) or the cause (stuck wheel cylinder, binding calipers, bad hardware)we are brake experts because that is all we do. now we go through training every 3 to 4 months and then we go through tech training every year and are tested on this all the time. so we do know what we are doing. my store does not have any reports on this site and it never will. if you do not want to fix what is wrong with you car i will not make you or try to force you to fix it but i will tell you what it could do if you choose to to fix it AND TO END A FOUR WHEEL FRICTION RELINE WILL NOT FIX MOST CARS. there is hardware return springs and shims. that is what the manufactory suggest to replace everytime you do the brakes. thanks for you time

I can't believe you're the one calling Leon a moron Donald since first of all you seem to have no idea WHERE THE "CAPS LOCK" BUTTON IS LOCATED ON YOUR KEYBOARD! With that out of the way, I'll tackle the subject at hand. We're all fine and proud that "JUST BRAKES" actually found "noticable" damage on your car and fixed it for you to the tune of $300. You are perhaps, 1 in 1000 that they got right. But the fact has always been, is now, and probably will always will be, that JB is a hack company interested in how full of bull they can fill you and see if you buy it. And the story remains the same as well. Somehow it's always calipers, returns etc thats bad and "must" be replaced or when you leave their establishment your going to die due to brake failure. How do I know all this you ask? That's an easy one. 18 yrs. ago they pulled the same crap on me. The only difference in my case is that i was raised and trained by my Dad to know how to work on cars. All I needed on my car was new pads and a new drum to replace one that I knew was cracked. I just didn't feel like doing the work myself for a change. Funny how once you get there it "suddenly" needed 3 drums, calipers, oh and lets not forget the Master Cylinder they tried to sell me on by telling me it crapped out as well. To make along story short, I demanded they replace everything they had removed including the worn pads and I proceeded to drive across town to another garage I knew of. I paid for new pads, a new drum, and 2 hrs labor. So before you go on to call poor Leon here a moron. You might want to look in the mirror and ask yourself: Did they do a good job and fix what needed done or did they bend me over as well? Welcome to school, d**k....... class is now in session.

TO BEGIN I HAD WORK DONE AT JUST BRAKES NOT TOO LONG AGO AND WHEN I GOT THERE THEY ASKED ME TO STAND BY THE CAR WHILE IT WAS BEING TAKEN APART. I WATCHED THEM DO EVERYTHING. I CAME IN FOR THE SPECIAL ALSO BUT THEY FOUND "NOTICEABLE DAMAGE" TO MY ROTORS AND CALIPERS. MY BILL WAS ABOUT 300+TAX. I WAS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. I THINK PEOPLE LIKE THIS MORON CANT SEE WELL OR HEAR WELL. ALSO NOBODY IN FLORIDA FIXES ANYTHING FOR FREE. HEY BUDDY I THINK YOUR A MORON AND A LIAR AND NEXT TIME GO TO A PLACE YOU THINK WILL FIX IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT FIXED "WRONG". HERES AN EXAMPLE FOR YOU SO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WAY BUISNESS WORKS. I HAVE MY OWN CIGAR BUISNESS AND I WOULD HATE FOR A JACK a*s TO WRITE STUFF ABOUT ME THAT WASNT TRUE. SO HERES AND EXAMPLE YOU MIGHT UNDERSTAND. YOU GO TO MCDONALDS YOU BUY A HAMBURGER MEAL ITS ABOUT 4.00 DOLLARS, WHY? WELL BC YOUR PAYING FOR THEM TO COOK IT AND PACK IT AND SERVE IT TO YOU. OR YOU CAN BUY HAMBURGER MEAT AT THE STORE FOR 4.00 AND FEED 4 PEOPLE , BUT YOU HAVE TO COOK IT AND ADD THE OTHER INGRIEDIENTS TO IT AND SERVE IT AS WELL. SO IF YOU UNDERSTAND THAN YOU NOW KNOW HOW BUISNESS WORKS IF NOT THEN I SUGGEST YOU GO BACK TO ELEMANTARY SCHOOL.
