On 03/11/10 the KPCL service wire going from the stree to our house burned into at a joint where it had been repaired several times. It lit the whole area up in bright light. It looked like someone was welding outside. We turned off the main swich in our home and called KCPL. They sent a repairman out to restore service. The repairman said to me that there should never be more than one repair done to a line going to your house. Your line had four. I took photos of the burned into line. Once the power was back on we found that the washer dryer cood stove and two computers were all burned up. The next daywe called KCPL and told them about the damage. We were informed tha we had to fill out a damage report. We filled out the damaged report and included photos and reports from the computer shop and from appliance repair shop. In about a week we recived a letter that the claim was being denied. Because they don't have to pay damage clames. Because of a taffif agreement they have with the state of Missouri. They also informed us that we would have to pay for the $872.18 power bill. Keep in mind we had never had a bill over $120.00 in fact most of our bills at that time were around $75.00. What a crappy thing to do to a hard working family. We believe that the meter is not working right. We are getting bad reading. Because after this power spike and burned up things in our house the power bill all at once we way up. We have asked for the meter to be replaced. They still refuse to do this. It been over three years and still its not been resolved. Robert Belton Missouri
