The first 2 DOA's Melissa Cairns and Wendy Doolin neither of them have a degree and or the management experience to be in their current positions with their high salaries. The Vice President Mike Jones and the Senior Vice President Scott Kilgore both support their lack of qualifications to manage educated people. DOA Thomas Corbett was terminated from University of Phoenix for his mis-management and is now doing the same at Kaplan University.



They treat their people with no respect or dignity. They take care of their favorites and help them with their pay increases and fail to do the same for others on what they call "Professional Evaluations".  This needs to be looked into and changed or Kaplan University will be in trouble with the media and law suits coming their way.



They need to audit the high salaried employees to see what the differences are by DOA and their people. 



These 3 DOA's should be replaced with qualified people that knows how to manage people fairly.

This statement is to address the individuals writing comments on this site. I would like to thank you for standing up for me. I know you may have had good intentions but it was not handled in the correct manner. Please stop responding to this site where it looks as if it is me.

1. If I have something to say I will speak on my own behalf. Anyone at Kaplan will tell you I'm not afraid to speak my mind.

2. I left Kaplan on good terms and have nothing negative to say about them or their management staff.

3. If you are in management or on my past teams you have my telephone number and can always reach out to me. So please stop writing negative comments about the Director of Admissions, etc...

4. Prior to my departure I only worked for Thomas Corbett for maybe a week. So I would have nothing negative to say about him or his teams. As for Wendy Doolin or Melissa Cairns, I also have nothing negative to say.

5. We all have a job to perform and we need to do it daily. So people take it to the next level. Be positive and stop venting about these people on this site.

I wanted to address "IB Funny, Jen, Truth , and J". I am on this site because someone called me recently and told me my name was used. Well I'm here with my name as a MAN and PROFESSIONAL. If I have something to say, I will say it! I don't need anyone to speak for me.

6. IB FUNNY, you POSTED: Saturday, March 20, 2010 that I "boasts about posting these lies and misinformation. It is apparent he is vindictive and vengeful towards anyone who can identify with his abnormal behavior".

So, you think this is your last ADOA that just left. HAHAHA, good one. Thanks for thinking I'm him. But wrong again. I'm still working right next to you and it was good of you to think that I was one of the better managers that worked for Kaplan in Phoenix.

I know you all like to blame others. I like this game of you thinking I'm someone else. You can keep using him if it makes you feel better. I spoke with him and he has moved on past Kaplan. He advised me that he does not even want to discuss anything or anyone at Kaplan so keep blaming him this will be great.

However, I continue to work on the Kat team right under your big head. I will breakdown others around me until I'm ready to leave. I'm "NOT READY" to leave as of yet. So let's keep this going until them. I'm looking for a job with others and until then you will have to put up with me barely making my goal if I make it. Start the disciplinary process and let's see if I can beat you once again.

WOW, it is hard to keep good help at the Phoenix, location! What is going on at this location? Is the upper management trying to get rid of all the people that stand up to them? Another Phoenix ADOA bites the dust and leaves the Phoenix site.

I justed wanted to say something to the ADOA that just left. The advisors from the Phoenix site wishes you the very best where ever you may be going. Don't forget about the hard workers at the Phoenix site. You are a true leader and if you have any openings please reach out to us. We are all looking for a better place to work under your type of leadership.

You are one of the better managers that we actually liked on the floor. You told us the hard "TRUTH"  and took care of everyone that asked for help unlike other management staff.

I heard that Buzz Stitzer the EDOA was brought into this site to close us down? Is there any truth to this statement?

ATTENTION: PHOENIX TOP PERFORMERS, it's time to start looking for a new job. They are going to use our new performance evaluations to REDUCE our pay. This will be bringing in NEW HIRES with less goals to hit their own goals and find reasons to get rid of us.

First Truth-Gilbert I worked with you and watched you spread lies and rumors about DOA Cairns and Kaplan University daily. Maybe you are this bitter because your peers could not stand you.

How pathetic are you??? I feel for you because you were unable to get promoted on your own merit due to your lack of any leadership talent or skill set so now you blame others. I work for DOA Cairns and I can tell the world that you are a sad bitter liar. The peers you worked with know that you are nothing more than a gossip.

The things you have stated about Melissa Cairns are simply not true and make you sound very bitter and pathetic. I watch Melissa work harder than I have ever seen a leader work.

You state that she had two ADOAs leave for other schools that now make more money because they could not get promoted under her just shows how flagrant your lies are. You clearly don't know or refuse to accept reality. You wrote that people have left because of Melissa, you are so wrong! The two ADOAs that are at others schools are still in contact with her as I just saw her with one the other day. I wonder if you believe your own lies.

As for her education what delusional thought did you come up with that made you believe she went to Ohio State?? What, because she is a fan of the school she lied about going there? You are really insane arent you? Wait, don't answer that we all know it will just be another lie! She attended college at UOP FACT! By the way who made you the expert on whether she has her degree or not? The truth is youre a liar.

 So Truth-Gilbert I suggest that you spend your time more constructively. DOA Cairns tries to hold back other from being promoted along with her partner in crime DOA Corett and EDOA BUZZ Stitzer.  If someone wants to get promoted or transfer they will try and discipline them or tell them if they were to be placed on a disciplinary actionthey would not be allowed to transfer as a rep or be promoted. These goones at Phoenix have to much power for their little role that gets to their big heads.

Ask Melissa how many people she has lost because of her lies and what happens to her ADOA's that try to get promoted at other sites what she does to them. Those two ADOA's have since let and both making more money and working for other schools.

Why is it that people that work for these DOA's that speak out always get in trouble or they fire them. I call that mis-management and poor leadership. These are what we call on the floor Kaplan core values from DOA's and the EDOA "We will lie to you, we will write you up, we will hold you back from opportunity, we will play the color game, that means if your not the white color, your not the right choice of promotions. Let's not talk to HR that is a waste of time in Phoenix. This DOA thinks she is qualified to run something of importance, that is a joke, where did she get her bachelors degree from Ohio State or University of Phoenix????? Oh sorry, neither, she does not have an actual college degree in a position that requires all reps to have for 30,000 a year what a joke this company is full of lies with their upper management.

DOA Corbett Abuses his ADOA's

Well, well, well, let's talk about Mr. Corbett and his work ethics along with how he looks like he is doing good by his employees. He does not do anything for my peers or me. He has the ADOA's assigned to him running around crazy while he manages by email to them and team leads. He keeps adding to his poor managers plate day in and out. He has them doing everything and he just puts his name to it and gives it the the EDOA as his work.

The ADOA's coach, complete reports, discipline, etc... They run around managing 25 plus employees while the DOA's sit in their office and say I want this, that and the next completed and send to me by this time etc... I can't even spend time just having conversation with my ADOA because her email keeps going and going with this DOA's email after email. He manages by force and saying he is the DOA so it does not matter what you say he will always be right and you will be wrong.

Why don't you ask the minorities that work for him, how he treats them to see how great he is with his people. That is another discussion that may have to be looked into soon.

HE IS A POOR DOA, He needs to treat his people better and stop abusing them or overworking them.

This DOA has to place his resume out to make himself look better than others. As to DOA Wendy DOOLIN having a MASTERS DEGREE that is a LIE and JOKE. Look at her resume or qualifications. She did not even have a bachelors degree when she got hired. Tom and Wendy have been friends prior so of course he will stand up for her. PROVE it? I'm sorry you "CAN'T" because she quit her job because she did not know  how to manage her people.

Let's not play the blame game. These DOA's at the Phoenix site are out for themselves and they make their ADOA's work like slaves. The ADOA's can't even spend time with us because they are doing the DOA's job while they keep adding more and more on those poor individuals.

I have worked for Kaplan University for two years and have worked with Melissa Cairns through those years. She has been one of the most outstanding leaders I have ever had the privilege to work with. Not only is she very well educated with a degree but she has been in education for over ten years. She has always held herself and her staff in the highest manner of ethics and truly understands the nature of the position and the business.

I feel sad for this person who posted this as they are clearly bitter due to their own inability to achieve any level of success in their professional career due to their own lack of work ethic and self accountability.

This person wants to speak of these leaders being unqualified uneducated and unprofessional?? It sounds like this person is projection their own deficiencies on to others.

I will tell the public ask anyone who knows or has worked with Melissa and they will tell you that she is very good at what she does. She has one of the best work ethics they have ever seen. And more than that she is extremely caring and supportive of those she works with.

What a disgruntled employee! This person no doubt lies to their spouse and anyone else who will support their victim claims which is a mask for their own failures at work. Thomas Corbett is the only manager I have ever known who gives you his bio of past employment, he lets you know where he worked, for how long, and has his performance reviews, and industry related documents available for full disclosure. How many managers do that? I have worked with him for almost 2 years and have found him to be overly honest, brutally ethical and holds himself accountable before he will others.  Most people that work for him are successful as a result of him. How sad that someone who is a failure has to blame others for what is really their own fault. No doubt this person is a job hopper, and fails at all their other life endeavors.  Bad Karma for lying also!  LOL

I am an admissions advisor at Kaplan Online. By far Tom Corbett is the best manager we have, and the best many employees have ever had. Much of my success is due to Tom's helping me every bit of the way, as he helps everyone. We have employess who are lazy, lie, make no effort at working hard, and then blame everyone they can other than themselves for their failure. Shame on people who post blatant, hurtful lies like this.  Apparently that is why they are in the situation they are in, and are probably this way in every element of thier life.

The author of this complaint is obviously a very disgruntled employee and directs their retaliation towards Directors at Kaplan University. I work at KU and know them both. The actual facts are:

Both Thomas Corbett and Wendy Doolin have masters degrees and have been in the education industry for a very tenured period of time. Thomas Corbett not only resigned from his position at the University of Phoenix, but sent a US Postal certified copy of his registration to Brian Mueller who was CEO at the time. Also, DOAs do not submit Professionalism points, those are documented and submitted by ADOAs only. DOAs also cannot alter, or edit any performance reviews, which are approved several levels above them. Additionally review audits are done internally quite periodically by corporate and outside agencies. Both Thomas Corbett and Wendy Doolin have letters and emails from multiple employees praising them for being fair and consistent, also on file and documented with the organization. It is easy to target a manager when one is not doing well, and to blame someone else for their deficiencies. Sadly, the person posting this and their own ethics, are to post fraudulent facts on the internet with no basis of fact in an attempt to harm someone who has achieved through hard work what they have not.
