This is the same at any type of college. No college will release your degree or transcripts from your classes until your balance is zero, regardless of the reason why you need the transcripts. This is the only method that the schools have to ensure that they are paid by the students. Also, you need to do the math before you start saying you don't owe. It is your responsibility to know and understand your financial aid. Student Loans have a max of about ~10,000 per year, plus any Pell grant you may have qualified for. If it took you more than 3 years to complete the degree (they don't give summers off at Kaplan), then you would have had a balance due. Depending on your EFC (expected family contribution) on your FAFSA, you might not have qualified for the Pell grant at all. Stacy

Joellen: I am so sorry to hear about your situation. If I were you, I would file a complaint against this school. I just can't believe that the President of the college won't even talk to you simply because he's "got other things to do." There's simply no excuse for that! Don't let them push you around. Do whatever you have to do in order to get your transcripts released so that you can get a really good teaching job. Also, if I were you, I would go after the father and make him pay child support. Contact your local Domestic Relations office to see if they can help track him down. After all, it takes two to make a baby, and it's his responsibility to take care of those kids just as much as yours. I don't know the situation between you and your chidrens' father, but he needs to step up to the plate and take care of those kids. Just leave everything in God's hands and He'll see you through. I certainly don't want to see you be homeless. Keep us posted as to what's going on. Take care and good luck.
