First I would like to say, anytime I have called the person that answers the phone was always polite. Maybe not helpful, but they were always polite. Right now I am frustrated about my 5 bridesmaid dresses that were ordered and paid for in full. No one seems to know when they will be in, or if they will be in on time. I think it is amazing that my special made to order wedding gown only took 4 months to come in (I got it at a small privately owned shop).

Now I am being told that my bridesmaid dresses take anywhere from 4-6 months to come in, I find that hard to believe. But anyway, I am waiting to find out the out come of all this. I hope they come in atleast a week before my October 2, 2004 wedding so the girls can get them altered if need be. After reading all of these posts about Kaufman's I am seriously thinking about writting to Alfred Angelo and suggesting that they no longer deal with Kaufman's. I doubt Alfred Angelo or any other designer would want to ruin their reputaion over a store that can't seem to give straight answers.

The PA Attorney General Was Helpful!

My fiance & her bride's maids bought their dresses and paid in full at Kaufman's Wedding World in Maryland. We were very upset when we heard the news of their closing and thought that we would have to start from square one and that we had lost all of our money. Even though we are Maryland residents and we bought the dress in Maryland, the PA State's Attorney's office was very helpful. They put us in touch with the dress resellers where Kaufman's ordered our dresses. We found out that Kaufman's didn't pay them in full, so we still had to pay the difference, but we received our dresses.

contact the attorney general's office

I urge any and all of you that have paid, ordered and recieved nothing to contact the attorney general's office. http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/ They have everything you would need there to file a complaint and information you will need to send to your credit card company if you want to dispute payments made with your credit card. The Attorney General's office was swamped today with calls regarding the closing of all the Kaufman stores yesterday. I was fortunate that Kaufman's actually put my order in, I am now dealing with the designer and I am still getting my dresses. Now all we need to do is get our money back from Kaufman's, until then the dresses are paid for twice. Kaufman's has screwed way to many people, I am glad they are finally getting theirs. I hope the attorney generals office gives it to them good and without KYgel. Girls and Guys, good luck getting what you paid for and what is rightfully yours. Oh and as to my first post, I take back the comment about them being nice anytime they answered the phone. Last time I called the girl who answered was a total b*tch. She must have known she was out of a job at the end of her shift. PS. If you know the designer of the items you ordered, contact them. Most are willing to work something out so you still get your goods.

former employee...tips for customers

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

Wed, September 08, 2004

i am a former employee of kaufman's wedding world. i would like everyone to know what kind of horrible, unethical company kaufman's was. first of all, the kaufman's closed all of their stores without giving ANY notice to their employees. i came to work a week ago to find that the store was empty. they are like rats in the night...they just came in and took EVERYTHING! also, they are refusing to give their employees their last paychecks (which is for the past two weeks.) my advice to former customers is not to bother emailing [email protected], as no one will get back to you. employees were instructed by the kaufman's to have customers use the email, but we all knew the customers would never get a response back. the "supposed" customer care hotline is bullshit too. i'd be very suprised if anyone got a call back. the kaufman's are some of the shadiest people i have ever encountered. just two weeks ago ira kaufman (one of the sons) faxed all of the stores a long "heartfelt" letter saying that he was going to revitalize all of the stores, that though the stores have been struggling with customer problems, he was going to work day and night to bring the company back to its former "glorious" days. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! how did ira do this? he closed all the stores!!!! i feel extremely bad for any customer that recetnly placed an order. i doubt you will ever get your dresses. if i were you, i would go to the state attorney general's office and file a complaint. i've heard the pa attorney general has already filed a lawsuit against the kaufman's. maybe you should drive to altoona where corportate headquarters is/was. i would demand to talk to the kaufman's. watch out though, mrs. kaufman sometimes pretends to be someone else. (so she doesn't have to deal with angry customers) good luck to everyone who bought a dress from kaufman's...if your wedding is coming up soon, go to another bridal shop. you may have to put out more money, but at least you will get your dresses. ps. i would have signed my name, but i want my pay check and if the kaufman's found out who i am, i would never get my money.

Bankrupt, employees haven't been paid in over three weeks

#5Consumer Comment

Our local news reported this morning as a follow up to a previous report about Kaufman's. The company has gone bankrupt. A woman in Lancaster banged on the door's of the Lancaster store until an employee let her in. They then told her that the store was closed and her dress was never coming in and to pick put anything she wanted in the store as compensation. Some employees haven't been paid in over three weeks which is nothing compared to the brides to be left in despair for not getting their gowns.

I did call the Lancaster store. I got no where talking with them. I am still waiting for a call back from them (2days later). I finally got in touch with someone named Pat in the corp office. She says she will look into the problem and get back to me today. We shall see if it really happens. I have my fingers crossed that she will be a woman of her word.

I am a bride who is in a similar situation. I called the store all day Friday and no one answered (neither human or voice mail). I drove over to the store on Monday evening and there was a notice posted on the door saying that the store is in Sherif's Sale. Kaufman's does has a sign posted saying that they have relocated to Lancaster (where there is already another branch). Try calling the Lancaster branch for assistance. Good luck and please have a back-up plan for your BM dresses.
