I bought a 2001 Kia Sportage Limited Edition back in August of 2001 and I have had nothing but problems. To start off, both of my rear passenger windows do NOT work at all. I have taken the vehicle numerous times for repair and the problem still stands. Also, the check engine light stays on and no one at the dealership seems to know why and cannot fix the problem because they say that they can't find a problem. Can we say "Kia's suck" . I am in the process of arbitration and hopefully I can get rid of the stupid thing!! No one in their right mind will buy a Kia. Sure they have a good warrant and they cost less but when you own one you will see why they have a good warranty, because you always have problems with it!! So spare yourself some time, energy, and money and don't buy a KIA!!

(Dear Editor: I am posting this message on ALL KIA related reports, for safety reasons. The NHTS gets real results) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationmission is to: Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes. I filed a report on my 2001 Kia Sportage (faulty vacum hoses/torn solenoid-due to poor design)--and they called me back THE SAME DAY!! They are going to investigate the situation. This is not the first time that NHTS has gone after KIA-read the reports!! They slammed down on them for their cheaply made 4 wheel drive hubs (to name just one of the many junk parts that Kia makes). Be sure to have all your service documents handy. Express how unsafe you feel driving a KIA. And please; if you have had a problem with the vacume hoses/solenoid--PLEASE FILE A REPORT!! Kia does not fix this under their crappy 10 year plan!! Just type National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into any search engine-and put Kia in their place!

i agree with you that you have purchased the worst vehicle around.i work at a kia dealership as a mechanic. i have been a mechanic for 19 years and before medical problems i worked on jaguar rolls royce vehicles. kia is a major step downwards. the cars are poorly built. as i technician i was disgusted at the complete lack of information on kia i need to fix your car.the factory pays very little for a tech to diagnose it correctly.i have spent hours diagnosing a kia only not to be paid at all for finding the problem.ive seen techs write no fault found could not duplicate on repair orders without coming within 10 feet of the car.we are paid 1 hour to do a 4 hour job. so the will to fix these cars is gone as of a few days ago i stopped going to work because i cannot make enough money working on these vehicles.

There is NOTHING UNUSUAL about your complaints about Kia Motors, nor Kia Dealers! Cheer up! You could have had Kia financing! A Kia may be the last

Kia Sportage may be the last car you ever own! Why? Several good reasons: It is a real Off Road Vehicle! If the pavement is wet in the least you will spin like a top and end up - Off of the Road! It is engineered to be a cross between a cheap sports car and a cheap jeep. It handles and drives like an insane wild mule on steroids and met amphetamines! The suspension system, what little there is, is just awful, and will give you spinal problems from the miserable rough ride! Great Warranty! You will need it - until you figure out that you cannot spend the rest of your life taking it back to the dealership and just give up! It is just a cheap piece of junk! In all fairness to the dealership - they cannot make an acceptable car out of a Kia. Windows malfunction, doors malfunction, knobs come off in your hand, inserts come flying off of wheels, windows break if hit by a bug, and the go cart engine misses, sputters, and dies, preferably in heavy traffic - just to name a very few Kia terminal repair problems. The Kia self-destructs while it just sets in your driveway! You will get to where you are afraid just to look at the thing! A Kia is a very depressing sight for its owner! Kia makes the Yugo look like a Lincoln! The little lady has been making around $400.00 a month payments for the death trap, for two years now, for her $15,000.00 Kia. She still owes around $14,000.00 for it. Why? Kia financing! The dealership took advantage of her being in a grief reaction over the death of her sister to tack on every useless add on warranty and charge imaginable, and some which no sane person would ever think of! The interest rates are the highest I have ever seen outside of a pawnshop! By the time she gets through paying for it - she could have bought another home - on the lake yet. Right now she owes around $14,000.00 for a Kia which is worth around $5000.00, if we could find anyone stupid enough to buy the thing. The Kia has the worst resale value imaginable, and you will have to pay handsomely just to get any car dealer to take it in as a trade! And after having this one - we really cant blame them! We have thought about selling our Kia Sportage Death Trap to a private individual, however, we are just not big enough liars, we can find no one whom we hate that much, and do not wish to be responsible for someone elses death on the road. It looks like the Kia will be the last car we ever own! If we do not die in this death trap, we will spend the rest of our lives paying for it! And worst of all - we have to spend the rest of our lives riding around in a self destructive, abusive riding clown car! Thanks to Kia Motors and Roper Kia in Joplin Missouri! Do yourself a favor. If you are seriously considering buying a Kia, just shoot yourself. It will be a lot more fun, less painful, make more sense, and you might just live afterward - unlike Kia ownership! You do not own a Kia, the Kia owns you - forever! Kia ownership is like a very bad horror movie with lifetime, non-ending sequels - Kia - the terrorist revenge upon the American People for us being in their country in the first place! KIA - MADE IN KOREA! Most likely, a Kia will be the last car you ever own!

Just to let everyone know my Kia Sportage has finally been classified as a lemon. And after reading numerous reports on Kia products, and having my own problems, I know that I will never buy another Kia product.

Sportage Check Light Problem

#13Consumer Suggestion

Tue, March 05, 2002

I have owned 2 Kia Sportages. One, a 1997, the other a 1996 to replace the 1997 that was destroyed in a car accident. The check engine light problem (after 5 trys by the dealership) was diagnosed and repaired after a Kia rep. from the HQ in Pleasanton, CA, came out by my request and the dealership's request. The problem is in the emmissions system. If they do a diagnostic on the emissions, the problem will be caught and fixed.

Try that. If the problem still exists, it is a lemon and should fall under federal laws protecting against faulty vehicles.

sorry to hear about your problem with your kia.
just wanted to let everyone know it is not every kia that is bad.

i brought mine used it is a 1998 kia sephia it had 19,000 miles on it, now close to 35,000 and i have not done a thing to it except change the oil and put on a performance breather.
i just don't want everyone to think kia's are all bad.

with every company there are always the cars that turn out to be a lemon.

if they were not a good car they could not offer a 100,000 mile warrenty on it every time it is taken into the dealership to be fixed that cost them money and time so i think you are just one of the unlucky ppl who picked out a lemon.

just my 2 cents worth
