I purchased two 512 k memory chips from Best Buy that offered rebates of $45. each. I mailed the sales receipt and cut out the bar code from the package and included that in the envelope. After about 6 weeks I received a notice from the rebate company that I had been declined from the rebate for not including the bar code, and that I had listed a P. O. Box as my address.

I called the rebate center to complain, pointing out that the P. O Box is my official mailing address in the small town in which I live, and that they responded to my letter, therefore they received it, and presumably the bar code enclosed. It is hard to imagine receiving the letter with the receipt but without the bar code I had inserted. Despite this the person on the phone insisted they could do nothing and that perhaps what I had included in the envelope was something other than the bar code from Kingston on the package.

I returned to Bet Buy and viewed the packages (I had thrown out the originals) similar to the one I purchased. There are no other bar codes to be confused with. There is only the one similar to the one I sent.

In the past, I have heard about people unhappy with rebates but I have always received mine, albeit months late. This is the first time (for me) a company has outright refused to pay despite having received the necessary documents.
