It seems that Joel Klapprodt of Klapprodt pools in Keller Texas is in a bit of a pickle. He and his so called "Christian Cronies" organized a major fund raising event to help one of his cronies daughters who was supposedly dying of cancer, the local CBS affilliate Channel 11 reported over 100K in donations accepted, Mr. Klapprodt claims only 80-85K. PROBLEM: The girl did not have cancer.

It further is alleged that some of the donors when asked for their money back were offered bribes to stay quite and when they refused the bribes Mr. Klapprodt and /or his cronies filed false police reports claiming Harrasment.....it is further alleges that the small local police department where Mr. Klapprodt lived called one of these donors and ordered him to cease and desist from getting his donation back. It was reported that this donor made a report to the FBI regarding the discrepences in the donations and on Mr. Klapprodt and the police for maybe having engaged in civil rights violations in concert with Mr. Klapprodts personal attorney.

For a better idea of the alleged fraud go to Channel 11 in DFW and click on their Video library and scroll down to April 13, 2009 and see the story about the 100K in donations made to the dying woman who was not dying.

Ironically enough they are now trying to say this woman has some metal illness in which she fakes illnesses, I wonder how much medical insurance fraud was committed by her??? And we wonder why our health insurance premiums are so high!!

First of all the auction was given out of the goodness of the Klapprodt's heart. They were taken advantage of & scammed. They didn't know this lady was faking her physical illness & that actually she was mentally ill. Our company gave items to the auction & after the Klapprodts found out it was a scam they called us & offered to pay us or give us our items back... so they did do the right thing! We gave from the goodness of our hearts ... as we all should. This lady is really sick & she needs lots of help. The money will be used for that purpose.

Now... the Klapprodt Pool Co. has also redone our 20 yr. old pool & did a fantastic job! There was a problem with it 3 yrs later ... they came back out & fixed it...  no charge to us! How many companies take that great care of their customers... they stand behind their work! They are good hard working people... & their business is one to trust!

I only wish the world had a lot more folks like Joel Klapprodt. A hard working man with a "BIG HEART" that was trying to help a friend in need. KT in Norman, I don't know what has happened in your life to make you so sour that you have the need to write bad things about a person of the quality of Joel Klappodt, but I sure hope things get better for you and you find something constructive to do with your time and I hope you can get a better outlook on life. Maybe you need some friends...........a friend like I have in Joel Klapprodt. A friend that would help me or anyone else in a time of need. KT.....next time you decide to take a shot at someone without knowing them or the situation, try to pick on someone that has actually done something wrong. You won't win in a character debate with Joel because his character is impeccable. KT drop me a line in Grapevine and lets do lunch someday and maybe I can help you get a better outlook on life and a better understanding of this situation. Thanks (((ROR REDACTED))) CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report.

I think everyone knows That Joel had the best on intentions here but you guys sicken me with your continued support of the ex hayward rep and his sick daughter, I myself will not waste a good prayer on either her or her father, 8 years of medical insurance fraud, come on guys be real, if you think that she is excused from her actions because of her alleged mental illness you all are as sick as she is. The State of Texas executes mentally ill individuals several times a year, while you are praying for her besure to pray for all those mentally ill serial killers that are housed in our nations prisons, excuse their actions also since they are menatlly ill. FACT: the ex hayward rep accepted the donation of a brand new car for his dying daughter from a pool contractor in the DFW area, not he or his sick daughter have made any effort to return the vehicle that was donated based upon a deception, and that folks shows their true colors in this entire matter. As long as they keep that car then a fraud has been and continues to be in motion. Lets all pray they return the car!!!!

A slanderous report based on unsubstantial allegations and hearsay

As co-owner and the General Manager of H & H Pool Decks, Inc. I am appalled and highly offended in reading this report. H & H has done business with Klapprodt Pools and Joel Klapprodt for many years and find his reputation and integrity beyond reproach. This report seems to have been submitted with allegations based on hearsay and sarcastic remarks demeaning to Joels faith and religion i.e. "Christian Cronies." Also the Keller Police Department is no "small local police department." H & H donated generously to the benefit and in no way feels that Klapprodt Pools or Joel Klapprodt did anything other than a wonderful act of altruism. To have his great efforts (as well as the many who put so much time and work into this fundraiser) twisted into something so aweful, for whatever reason by this slanderous person with his or her snide remarks, is a downright shame! The person submitting this should be able to substantiate these allegations before making such rude attacks. The situation with the lady for which the fundraiser was held is none the less, sad and heartfelt...she needs our prayers now as much or more than ever. Respectfully yours, Donnie

Our family has known the Klapprodts for 15 years. Our pool was designed and built by them, and we find them to be of fine integrity and character. We, too, donated and volunteered toward fundraising efforts. When the news came out, we were contacted by Joel, explaining, and offering to return our donations. Within the next week, we received the letters explaining how we could do so. The letters also explained how we could opt to have our donation sent to a cancer charity organization, which we gladly agreed to do. We value and appreciate the efforts, contributions, and leadership that Joel put into this. He and his company should be commended for this. Our prayers go out to Hope and her family during this very difficult time. L. Kruger

What a shame it is that Joel Klapprodt and the wonderful staff at Klapprodt Pools have to bear this kind of unjust criticism when all they tried to do was help a neighbor in need. Joel and the others had no way of knowing that Hope was not really ill. They saw a neighbor in what they thought was a dire situation and galvanized a community to help her out. They should be applauded, not criticized. Then, when they found out that the woman was really sick mentally and not physically, they came forward with that information immediately and began returning the money. I just hope that Joel and company won't let this terrible experience keep them from helping others in the future. Joel did the right thing. He proved he's a good person, an honest businessman, and a good neighbor - he deserves to be congratulated not slandered. Nancy

The report and allegations filed regarding Klapprodt Pools and the Klapprodt family could not be further from the truth. I am not a member of the Klapprodt family, nor am I an employee of the Klapprodt company. I am also a person who donated to the cause, and will patiently wait until the issue is resolved. The Klapprodt family was approached by the family of Hope, the young woman who faked cancer for 8 years - allegedly fooling even her husband, mother, father, etc. You can see her story on the CBS 11 website. While we don't yet know who in her family knew about the fraud, I do know that the Klapprodt family was attempting to help someone in dire need and did not know about the fraud until after the fact. It was a resource provided by the Klapprodt family that discovered the fraud, so it does not follow that they were in on it. Once they found out, they began attempting to notify the involved parties. I know that they will resolve any and all issues surrounding the many donations. I wonder if the post from Oklahoma comes from a business competitor, or if they just hate people who try to do good things? Perhaps you should contact the family of Mrsx. Yxxxx, who has received the huge sums of money over the past 8 years for your refund, as that's where the money went to.

Truth About the Charity Benefit

Joel is my oldest son, and I am very proud of him. He is a man of integrity and high morals. He has a big heart, and his love and generosity for others has always been a source of pride for me. That is why is hurts me to see the claims that "K.t." has made. I know they are misleading and false. As others have already explained the true facts, I only want to say that Joel organized this benefit because he saw a woman with three children in need, who he was told was dying from cancer. Her story was heatbreaking, and he only wanted to do all he could to help her and her family out. Organizing this event took an unbelievable amount of time and effort by many volunteers. Because of Joel's generous nature, it is no surprise he would want to do this for Hope. In the weeks following the benefit, he found out Hope had been lying and was actually sick with munchausen syndrome. Joel was very upset, and wanted to do the right thing for everyone involved. He sent letters out to the donors to explain what had happened. He gave them the option of having their donation returned, or making a donation to the cancer society. All the money was still in the church fund. It is very sad when this person, "K.t.", who doesn't even identify himself, would make such unsubstantiated and cruel allegations about someone just wanting to help a family in need. I believe Joel proceeded in an honest and ethical manner. It makes me wonder what "K.t.'s" real motives are. To make false allegations that Joel is dishonest is simply not true. We must remember that there is still a very sick woman and a family here that is in need of our prayers. I would like to thank Joel and everyone involved in the benefit for their extreme kindness and generosity. I only hope and pray that some good will come out of all of this. We are thankful that Hope is now getting the help she needs. Marlys Bernard Ft. Worth

I donated to this cause and do not believe for a minute that fraud was involved. I was given two chances to recieve my donation back. The first time was shortly after they realized what had happened and the second was several weeks ago. I have decided to allow my donation to be forwarded to a cancer research program. Please realize that mental illness is a hard illness to understand and detect. This woman suffers greatly on a daily basis and hopefully will now get the help that she needs. It is unfortunate that kind hearted people who are trying to do the right thing get involved in a tangled mind. God bless them because they do not wish anything but a full recovory for this woman and peace for her family. KJ in Minnesota

I have known the Klapprodt's for many years and I can assure you 100% that Joel is trying to do the right thing here by getting the donations back in the hands of the people that donated. The Klapprodt's were trying to do a great thing for someone they thought was ill and now you are bashing him because he was fooled by someone else. They worked thier tails off to put this thing together and for someone to think they were trying to commit fraud is a bunch of BS. You need to get your facts straight before you try and ruin someone's reputation. Kody

KLAPPRODT POOLS IS NOT A RIPOFF

We too donated to this fundraiser. Everyone's intentions were honorable and in an industry where competition is not only stiff but can be considered adversarial - this was one of the most generous outpourings of charitable giving I have seen in quite some time. The Klapprodts are to be commended for volunteering to take on this project - as far as we are concerned they did everything properly - they worked with a 501(c)3 charity who had the secure handle on the donated funds. Once the Klapprodts were made aware of the situation - there was not an iminent death from cancer happening - they immediately notified everyone who had donated funds to this cause. The letter was very courteous and let everyone know that they would have their donations refunded. They did mention that if anyone wanted to donate their funds to a cancer foundation charity that could be done also. We did not find this offensive at all. Just someone trying to do the right thing. In no way shape or form was this to be construed as devious by anyone. I am offended for the Klapprodts and those of us who donated to this cause with the best intentions of helping someone we thought was dying. I guess someone decided to take this opportunity to defame the Klapprodts. As the saying goes "No good deed goes unpunished." There will always be someone with a grudge to try and create problems. Mr. T: while I appreciate your support of your friend, it seems you only got the facts from this very wrong source of information and I would like to point out to you that there is usually a good reason to file a cease and desist, and it is not because someone asks for a refund. It is true that CBS reported 100K was collected but our golf tournament and dinner/ auction was only one source of the total funds collected albeit a large portion of it. It should be noted that our company's name never came up during the newcast at all, much less were we "exposed as frauds". We sponsored this event but all funds were deposited in a special account with a local church, not in our company accounts and not in any of the family's bank accounts. Nor has any of the money been given to the family by the church as was also noted in the news story. CBS also reported that letters went out explaining that the money would not be going to the family and donors would have a chance to receive refunds. I have handled all the tracking of legitimate sponsorships and donations made during our event and the requests for refunds of any and all of those have and will be honored. Donors of funds collected through the various other fundraisers are being offered the chance at a refund as well. As for this woman's illness, I really feel for a person for whom ordinary family relationships and friendships weren't enough for her to feel loved and cared about. I wish for her sake (and her family), this could have been caught sooner and I pray that she gets treatment and receives emotional healing. I am very proud to call Joel my brother and my boss. He is a good man with a good heart and honest intentions both personally and professionally- it is a pleasure to work with him and all the Klapprodts. We all took up the challenge of raising these funds with open hearts, not just us at Klapprodt's Pools but all the 200-plus people involved. It was inspiring to see so many people come together in these economically challenging times and on a really ugly day to play golf to try to help someone in need. I don't regret anything we did, we had only honest intentions. I was truly awed and still am by the generous hearts of the people who came together, from business partners and suppliers to competitors and rivals from various aspects of the pool industry. And as you can see, Mr. T from Norman, Oklahoma, I'm not hiding behind my initials. Julie Miller Office Manager

I have been in the swimming pool business for a quarter of a century. I have met many people with whom I am proud to be associated. There are others that make me ashamed to admit that I am part of the swimming pool business. There are people like the Klapprodts and there are people like KT, Oklahoma. I am proud of being associated with people like the Klapprodts. They are well respected within our industry. They are not greedy nor are they dishonest as KT, Oklahoma might lead you to believe. They are a sensitive and caring family and undertook this project to help another fine family who honestly thought their daughter would not live another 30 days. KT's reporting of the incident is representative of a thoughtless individual. A loose cannon, firing at any target that he can hit, caring little for the subsequent damage. I can only hope that KT's response is not representative of others in our industry. There were hundreds of other thoughtful, caring people who chose to support the fundraiser. The fact of the matter is that although Hope is not terminally ill, she is very ill. Munchausen Sydrome is a very debilitating disease. KT's callous insensitivity and unfounded accusations are debilitating as well. If KT is concerned about getting his money returned, he need only contact me and I will make sure he gets what he deserves.

Truth about the Charity Event

#24UPDATE Employee

Thu, April 30, 2009

The Ripoff Report is inflammatory and full of innuendo. The lady in question is a very sick individual; she does not have cancer, a fact that was discovered after the charity event that Joel organized. Her perverse and deep-seated illness is mental and is one in which she is compelled to fake illness in an effort to elicit sympathy and love from her family and friends. In retrospect the cancer she has claimed for years, resulting in very expensive and drawn out treatments, has existed only in her mind. She successfully hid this from everyone in her family, including her husband and parents. As a parent myself, I can only imagine the agony her family must be going through - happiness that she doesn't have cancer, coupled with all sorts of negative emotions toward her for all the years of deceit that her illness drove her to. All the money collected is in a trust. None has been distributed to the family. Everyone who contributed has been notified and given the opportunity for a refund. Some people have, in fact, elected to have their contributions returned. The balance remaining is going to be contributed to MD Anderson Cancer Institute, a fitting recipient. I have elected to leave my contribution in the trust so that it may, in its way, help defeat the insidious disease that cancer is. That anyone is attempting to claim a fradulent refund or belittle the magnificent attempt to help a person whose illness was thought to be terminal at the time of the charity event, is beyond contempt. It speaks of an individual whose smallness of character is in direct and complete contrast to the character and willingness of the many people who contributed vast amounts of time and effort to help someone in need.

Klapprodt "Ripoff" ?

#25Consumer Comment

Thu, April 30, 2009

I feel the need to respond to the Klapprodt fund raiser "rip off". I personally contributed to this event. I was notified within hours of Mr. Klapprodt's knowledge that this woman was not suffering with cancer. At that point I was offered the opportunity to have my donation returned. I was also contacted 2 weeks after by email that I could recieve my donation back. That would be twice I had the opportunity to cancel. My contribution went to a cancer research program. I feel that the funds raised will go to a worthy cause. We should not forget that mental illness is just as hard to deal with as cancer. It effects not only the person dealing with the illness but those around them also. It also can be very hard to detect and understand. There was very little fact in the report published. Alot of he said, she said which really doesn't hold up in the long run. I would like to thank the Klapprodt's for stepping up the plate to help someone. They had and have good intentions. More of us should follow their example. Kathy Jarchow Minnesota
