Bought 2000 Impala (53,000 miles) on 1/1 from Koons contingent upon getting a tremble in the steering corrected, which the salesman 'sam' lied and said was done. 3 days later, talked back to the salesman 'sam' and the general manager, stating the problem had not been fixed, wanting to bring the car back to the service dept. for repair. they said what do you expect when you buy a used car? and that the warranty only covered the power train and the car was bought 'as is.' this is not seen in any of the paperwork. then finally they refused to take any more calls. temp tags die on 2/8 and can't get hard plates til the car is inspected.

it failed MD inspection on 1/22, citing bearings in front wheels must be replaced, front alignment must be done and tag lights must be replaced. how could VA Insp. have approved this car for safety with what's going on in the front-end?

i suspect the dealership slap inspection stickers on those cars to make people think the safety features of their cars have been thoroughly investigated before sale. i need this car to pass MD inspection or my money back!

NC inspections do not care if the wheels fall off, as long as the tires are good, and all the lugnuts are attached as it rolls down the road past you. FL has no inspection at all. VA has their version, and so does MD. In MD, the steering system cannot leak at all. It's not even a safety issue. A drop of fluid will fail the vehicle. In MD, the wheels are pulled off and the brakes are looked at and measured. This includes the bearings and free play. In NC, as long as the vehicle stops without making noise, it passes. For the longest time, bad exhaust didn't fail a car in NC, and to this day you don't require a windshield. Crazy huh? Every state is different.
