To Whom it May Concern,

I had recently brought my 2003 Mazda Protege to the Kwik Kar location at 2490 S. Hwy 6 in Houston.

I came in due to the "check engine" light being on. After checking the codes, Robert, the mechanic, concluded it was faulty oxygen sensors, so I had two of them replaced.

However, after the sensors being replaced, the engine light came back on not long after leaving the establishment. Since I work in the San Antonio area during the week, I am only able to come back to this location on weekends. So, I brought the car back into the shop three more times over the next few weeks. The check engine light never went off during this time.

Ultimately, Robert could not find out what the issue was that was causing the engine light to stay on. He suggested I take it to another business to have it fixed. I then took my car to Mission Car Care at 19895 Clay Rd. in Katy, TX.

They found out what the problem was the first time and it appears the oxygen sensors replaced by Kwik Kar were not wired correctly, thus causing the computer to hard fault and leaving the check engine light on.

I had a written statement made out from Mission Car Care detailing what they had found. The wires were cut and spliced together. I then brought my findings, and the oxygen sensors, to Kwik Kar for an explanation.

One of the other nechanics on duty at the time stated that the oxygen sensors they use come in one piece out of the box, and that there is no way they could have done the service. However, I took the liberty of going over to the O'Reilly auto parts store across the street where they get these sensors.

I have since found out that they use what are called "universal" oxygen sensors. The sensors they use come in a kit where you must do the wiring yourself to put them into a car. Clearly contradictory to what this particular mechanic was telling me. So, Robert, the mechanic working on my car, had to have wired the sensors himself to get them in.

I've been asking for a refund from Kwik Kar for the last few weeks when I have come home from San Antonio on the weekends. I've presented them all the evidence I have gathered proving their involvment in the faulty wiring. However, they are refusing to provide a refund and won't even give me the owner's contact information.

I will be getting legal advice from a lawyer soon, and if they continue to refuse reinbursement, I will be taking the matter to a small claims court. It is more about the principle of the matter than the money, really.
