LAsik Vision Institute was formally located in tysons corner VA.  Dr Anthony Roberts and LVI did not properly screen me for laser eye surgery. They never informed me that I was a VERY high risk patient and only said that I was "PERFECT".  I now have severe dry eyes 24/7. I can't see properly at night because of ghosting and halos around lights. I have been in pain for almost three years now. They did this for money. They know that they have no reason to properly screen patients because you have to sign a wavier. They have ruined my career and life. Don't ever trust these people with your eyes.

I just went to see a doctor at the lasik vision center in bala cynwyd pa.  i was responding to the 299 per eye add which is relentlessly emailed to me.  the exact thing happened to me as to the other patient.  they had a woman speak with me, a technician do an exam and tell me i was a perfect candidate, an optomologist see me and tell me she could correct my distant vision but not my reading...SHE THEN SAID THAT THE TECHNICIANS REPORT DID NOT MAKE SENSE...SAID SHE DID NOT PERFORM THE PRESCREENING CORRECTLY BUT THAT WAS OKAY..THEY WOULD DO THE CORRECT TESTING ON THE DAY OF SURGERY...i then met with the sales girl who said i did  not qualify for the 299 per eye...it was 1700 per eye...i said i couldnt afford it...she said she would make a call...came back and said she got the manager okay for 900 per eye....i said no...she then said she would see about the friends and family deal...returned and i could say i was her aunt and get the one available family discount to her and pay 700 per eye...i said i would think about it....when i called today i was told they dont work on tuesdays...i asked who the actual doctor was..they said doctor anthony roberts....i googled him and found this article...and many others....PS..THE DOCTOR I MET WITH ALSO SUGGESTED I GET THE PLUGS IN MY EYES...SHE SAID SHE RECOMMENDS IT TO ALL HER PATIENTS...I READ THIS IS ALSO PART OF THE SCAM....

Remember that the response of the lawyer above is 100% biased. He/She is PAID to say anything that the Lasik Vision Institute tells him/her to say. I was NOT properly screened regardless of what the lawyers say. Three conditions made me a very risky patient. The doctors that screened me are ethically obligated to VERBALLY warn me about the risks. THEY SAID NOTHING. They told me I was a "PERFECT" candidate. This is NOT true. People need to realize that you will be handed a consent to sign right before the surgery. This has all the legal fine print that lets the off the hook. They have no motivation to warn anyone not to have the procedure. None. I was not given any VERBAL warning at all. Any competent doctor would of known the risky conditions that I had prior to surgery. Dry eyes. Large pupils and a very strong prescription. This is a recipe for disaster. MAke sure you get an unbiased ethical doctor who DOES NOT make money off this surgery to properly screen you. I have suffered greatly due to this company. I lost everything. MY entire career and life. All for a little money. If I had been properly VERBALLY warned and then made the decision to have the procedure then I would of been properly informed. I WAS NOT. I am sure the paid biased lawyer will fabricate some other story to try and make them look innocent. These are people lives that they are messing with. Once your eyes are lasered they can never be undone. Think long and hard.

Individual's unwillingness to allow LVI to assist him

LVI is familiar with the individual who posted this Ripoff Report complaint as he has posted a similar version of this complaint with another organization.

The Lasik Vision Institute (LVI) operates a business from where independent doctors can perform corrective surgery on the eyes of their patients.  It does not practice medicine, it does not decide who is a candidate for lasik surgery, it does not make any medical decisions and it does not employ any doctors.  LVI goes to great lengths to inform every patient that visits an LVI facility of the foregoing.

Consistent with the above, LVI could not have and did not inform this individual that he was a perfect candidate for lasik surgery.  It also would have had no way of knowing whether this individual was a very high risk patient or otherwise.  Any discussions concerning the medical condition of this individual would have only taken place between himself and the independent treating physician.  More importantly, this individual had previously filed a complaint against the treating physician with the Virginia Board of Medicine alleging the same wrongdoing and that Board determined that no wrongdoing had taken place.

This individual is also incorrect when he states that LVI has no reason to properly screen patients because each patient has to sign a waiver.  Simply put, no patient thats treated at an LVI facility is required to sign a waiver as a condition to their treatment.  This individual appears to confuse a waiver with the extensive patient consent form that he received prior to his surgery.  As is standard practice for any surgical procedure, the patient consent form provided to this individual detailed the various surgical procedures that are offered at the LVI facility along with the risks associated with each.  It did not include any type of a waiver against LVI or anyone else.

Elective surgery such as lasik surgery has certain inherent risks.  Those risks were described in detail to this individual via the patient consent form that he signed.  Although just about every patient that receives lasik surgery at an LVI facility is extremely happy with their results, there are a small handful that are not and this individual appears to fall into that category.  That does not, however, mean that LVI or anyone else did anything wrong when it came to this individuals surgery.  The frustrating part is that LVI has made numerous attempts to have this individual return to its facility so that the treating physician can determine whether any follow up care was needed yet this individual continues to decline LVIs overtures.
