League Of American Poets Secured $51.85 for 3 books that would contain my granddaugher's poem but never received Baltimore Maryland
On October 3, 2007, I received an email from the League of American Poets requesting that they be allowed to use my granddaughter's poem in an upcoming anthology entitled "Voices - A collection of short works". Since I had submitted it earlier, I thought it would be a great tribute to my 11 year old granddaughter to have it published, and of course, get copies for some relatives. So I agreed to purchase 3 books, 1 @ 14.95/for the first book plus $3.00 shipping and then an additional 12.95/for each additional copy plus $3.00 shipping for each of those.
I sent a check on October 21, 2007, in the amount of $51.85. The check was cashed shortly after that. I started to contact them sometime in November, but never got an answer either by phone, fax or email. I tried the number/email several times after that and never heard from them again. I tried the number today and it has been disconnected.
I am SOOOOOO upset. At least I had not told my granddaughter that I had sent her poem in to have it published or I would have had to disappoint her when it is nobody's fault EXCEPT the people who took our money and took advantage of people who love poetry and their families.
I hope something can be done to not let this happen again and hopefully this company will be found and asked to reimburse all the people ripped off.
Is there somewhere to check on the credibility of a company before placing an order?
