Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I just recently found out about this when scanning our bank statement.  There was a $39.95 debit from our account from MDHP8003195243  HEALTHPLAN.  I had noticed in the June statement but didn't think much of it.  I immediately called my banker and she told me to call the 1-800 number on the statement to find out what the charge was for.

I called and talked to a lady who answered and she immediately canceled my subscription and gave me a one month refund for the last charge.  She said she couldn't give me any more than that  because that was not in their policy.  She also told me that I was the one that agreed to the subscription back in July of 2008!  I never would have agreed to something that I knew would have cost the company money.  Of course, as soon as she told me that I had to dig into this deeper.

I called our CPA and asked him to get together all the Discover merchant statements and bank statements since July of 2008.  After discovering that all this time they had been taking out $39.95 a month for some bogus discount healthplan crap (a total of 26 months) and it was previously being taken out through the Discover Network Settlement instead of directly out of our bank account, I called the 1-800 number again to insist on getting a full refund and talked to Enzo.

Enzo was very rude and said that I should have known and/or listened to what the telemarketer had to say and that I agreed willingly to the subscription.  I may have "agreed" by saying "o.k." or "sure" just to get the guy off of the phone so I could finish what I needed to do.  I kept insisting and asked for his supervisor.  He said that he was the supervisor and if I called and someone else answered and I asked for the supervisor, he would be the one that I talked to.  The only thing he would do for me was give me credit for an one more month.  I agreed and hung up.

I then decided to call the Discover Customer Service Liason number and I left a very intense message that I needed to get all of my money back and that I was very upset that Discover would sell our information to a third party affiliate without our consent and that I was questioning even taking Discover cards anymore.

The next morning, Mona called me from the Healthplan place and she asked me what she could do for me.  I told her the spill and that I probably only stayed on the phone with that person because they said they were calling on behalf of Discover Merchant so I probably felt that I needed to hear what they had to say.  She was very nice and said that she would get me my full refund to me within 10-15 business days by check (i asked for a check) and that if I had any more problems I could call her direct.

So persistence pays off.  Don't settle if they won't give you all of your money.  Believe me, Discover does not want to lose their customers so they will most likely do anything to get you your money back.

P.S. Don't bother calling the main Discover Customer Service line or emailing them.  They will just say that you have to take it up with the company that charged you.
