I am a very Experienced Certified Public Accountant residing in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. I am looking for a job within the Accounting profession. I placed my resume online with several web sites.
I received a telephone call from a woman who tells me her company is interested in meeting with me about a job.
I asked her to email me the particulars about the opportunity. She said she not have my email address. I told her the address is on my resume. She did not have my resume.
She wanted me to meet with someone at a Hotel about 30 miles from my home. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. I received an email that evening confirming the appointment for the next day.
That night, I went onlne and saw that this Insurance company was looking for "people to sell their insurance" and the company was listed on the Rip-off Report as scamming people to sell their insurance by promising big paydays.
I was suspicious. I'm not an insurance salesman and don't want to be. I was assigned a number for my appointment
I also determined their closent location to my home was 45 miles away.
Although, the telephone call received was from the same area code I have. Taken all together, ther were simply too many red flags about this.
1) The woman cold called me.
2) She didn't have my resume.
3) She wanted me to meet at a Hotel.
4) Her company's nearest office was 45 miles away.
5) She telephone me from a local number.
Needless to say, I didn't keep the appointment.
I didn't want to waste the gas driving 60 miles for nothing. This has to be a SCAM. Tell me what you think?
