Liberty Tax Can't type a 1099? Or are they using my 1099 for their employment references? Dalton, Georgia
This is the first year my contract employer has utilized Liberty for their taxes, and I already have been told that it will be their last. I first requested my form 1099 from Liberty in January 2010, and was sent a blank photocopy, which is illegal. I filled in the blank photocopy with all info except my contract employer's Federal Tax ID, which I didn't have, and filed my taxes (without Liberty) on February 2. A call to the directory listing revealed that Liberty's phone had been disconnected. I called the 800 number to fax a request, was told that the fax was out of paper, and was given the e-mail address of [email protected]. I have e-mailed for my 1099 with no results.
I finally ordered a form 1099 with plans to have our insurance agency type it, and e-mailed the tax service to try and get the tax ID. This is a fairly new LLC partnership of an inherited failing business, the owner works 2 jobs, the agent is disabled and has little participation in the business, and I do all business activities except the books. The only place the Federal tax ID is to be found is on the bookwork, and it's all at Liberty.
I have to file state taxes on April 15, and I have promised the Feds I will get the real 1099 and file it with an amended return.
This region has a 13% unemployment rate, and it has occurred to me that relatives of Liberty employees might well be utilizing my contract business to cover gaps in references, and documenting it with a fraudulently obtained 1099 and a "manager/reference provider" among their own kind. This is the only explanation I can find for refusal to provide the form, or a tax ID so I can have it typed and file it myself. I have been doing my family's taxes since I was eleven, and my own since age 17, and the only Liberty I need is accompanied by the words "and justice for all".
This is not the fault of my bosses. They've always treated me well and fairly. This is a Liberty matter alone, and needs to be addressed.

Seems that Liberty Dalton sent the tax records to Liberty of Ringgold, GA. My contract employer met with the Ringgold preparer last night; I sent him over with a set of 1099's and the form which the employer must file with the government, and told him that it was imperative to get my copies completed and his copy filed, in order to take his tax deductions for my services.
This morning, he returned a partial set of 1099's to me. I now have the recipient's copy, the copy to be filed with recipient's state tax return, and the copy for the state tax department, which probably should be filed with the contract employer's Georgia state taxes.
Naturally, there still is no 1099 to be filed with my 1040, and I really wanted to send that late, late critter in with my April quarterly payment.
What is their objection to my filing a 1099 with my Federal taxes, or with an amended return?
