Lori sales voice over scammer Manhattan New York
sometime in 2012 , as I was on a bus near 47th Street and 1st Avenue in Manhattan heading to work, I was approached by a man who asked me for directions. After I had given him the best directions I could he proceeded to tell me how good my voice sounded and how great it would be for cartoon voice overs etc. the conversation was very short so I found that a bit odd. He then asked me to get off the bus with him so that he could tell me more about his position in the entertainment world and how far he could take me if I were to work for him don't three voice overs. He had a ton of very legit looking business cards from Disney and Viacom and various popular networks. He introduced himself as Lori sales and proceeded to show me " evidence" so that I would not doubt who he was.
He took one of the cards out (I believe it was the Viacom card) and said that he would put one of the producers or directors on the phone with me for proof. It must have been a couple of seconds with just a hello and I would love to work with you etc etc before they hung up. He then told me that I first needed to purchase a kit that would help me in developing my voice skills for whatever the part was he was going to get me.. From what I remember, he wanted me to dish out $150. Stupidly enough I believed him and went ahead and took money out of the nearest ATM and handed it to him and he then gave me his card and left from there. While I know that is the stupidest thing anyone can do I at least had the sense to google this person's name and to no surprise other people had been scammed by the same man.
As it was only a couple of minutes after I found this out, I ran back towards the bus stop where he was getting ready to enter a new bus and walk away laughing with my money, I chased the bus down banging on the side so that the driver can stop and I can confront this person. As I was getting yelled at by the bus driver to never bang on the side of the bus, I nearly ran towards the back where this man was sitting and told him that he needed to get off the bus! I confronted him and got my money back. He had no apology for me and just walked away saying that it was my loss! although I am very late with reporting this scam, I hope that this man by now has either gotten caught Or will get caught if enough people report him. no one should have to dish out their hard earned money to some random guy in the street who is too lazy to get his own money with a decent job. I was a sucker and I will never fall for this again. I hope no one else does either
