In 2006 I purchased a little female yorkshire terrier from Loryn Bogren of Crownridge Kennels.  Loryn indicated the pup had parti color lines.  She explained that she had spent a great deal of money and time on the required the DNA Testing to prove to the AKC that her parti color pups met the DNA critera of the traditional Yorkshire Terrier. Carly's mother was black and tan and her father was a parti color pup.  I paid a great deal of money to whom I believed was a reputable breeder, as I wanted to be certain of the dog's health and longevity.  I brought her home and vet checked her.  I was told she had luxating patella's, though at her early age it was not yet pronounced.  The balance of the report indicated that she was healthy.

Within the first year she exhibited some pain so I took her to see an orthopaedic vet only to be told she had luxating patellas and required an operation to correct the problem with both rear legs.  I called Loryn immediately with this news.  She declared that her pups were all healthy, and that she had never had a pup with luxating patellas.  She offered to take Carly back, but there wasn't anyway I would give her up.  The idea of it was heartbreaking.  I did not receive any offer from Loryn to reimburse the medical expenses I would incurred.  Rather than the surgery I took Carly for acupuncture treatments & herbs and learned how to play with her in a way which would not exacerbate her patella issues.

However, there was something even more dangerous that was looming, which I was completely unaware of.  At 7 1/2 years old Carly suddenly became unwell and died in my arms all in the same morning.  Carly's vet indicated it was apparent that she had died from an undectable congential heart defect.  I wrote to Loryn to inform her of Carly's passing and to explain the vet's determination.  Shockingly, Loryn didn't even bother to respond to my email.  I coudn't believe the coldness in this.  Having read the posts online about other pups from her kennel with the same issues, I felt I had a responsibility to register this information here.  I don't want to see this happen to anyone else.  i feel that Loryn should refund the purchase price I paid or provide to me, free of charge, a healthy pup of my choice.

The idea that she didn't even respond via email to say she was sorry to hear such sad news was devastating.  Having read the other posts, I can see that Carly's having had particolor DNA is likely what created her deadly heart issue.  Loryn boasts that her pups are all healthy, yet if that were the case, Carly would still be here with me, as Loryn indicated I should expect to have Carly for 15 years.  Through online research, I also learned that smaller Yorkshire Terriers tend to have shorter life spans.  if this is true, Loryn mislead me in this vein as well.  I hope this protects others looking to purchase Yorkshire Terrier pups.
