Check the laws in your state regarding recording. Put everything in writing. I started laughing when I read your post (I know it's not funny) about why they can't give you any information. Because if it ISN'T your debt, they could be in violation of laws, but they can still call and threaten and try to intimidate you? They can't. After you send them a letter demanding validation of the debt (they have to prove you owe it) and telling them that it is inconvient for them to call you (make sure you send the letter certified mail, return receipt requested), then contact the FTC and the Attorney Generals of IL and GA. Good luck.
