Situation: After a fender bender the last week of December 2015 I had my 97 BMW Z3 towed to Maaco/Meineke in Summerville. The estimate fluctuated, and a contract for service was not forthcoming, but I approved body work & mechanical repairs after i was assured the garage could manage my BMW's repairs and the cost would not exceed a certain amount. (Bubba business) I put half down as required by their store policy ($3100). After 6 weeks the repairs were finished & the automobile was ready for pickup. ($3600) It looked good at 1st glance. We drove 1 block from the store toward our house and i noticed the air vacuum vent for the ac was disabled (knob rotated freely), and the power steering was not functional. I returned immediately and J*** M******** (owner) assured me it would be repaired. I had not heard from the shop for 2 days. When i called i was refered to P*** (Meineke floor manager) whom said he was too busy to get to my car. I told him i would ask my tow guy if he was available to pick up the car. P*** was rude, angry and inappropriate ( recorded call). When i called back to say my tow guy would be there in 15 min P*** was conciliatory and said he had the car on the lift and the repair would be done within the hr. I picked up the car and drove it home ( 6 city blocks) The next day i drove the vehicle 5 miles and completely broke down. I called J*** M******** (owner) and he said he was sorry to hear i broke down and to bring the car back. I did not trust them at this point. I had it towed ($100) to my regular mechanic at E********** Beamers in Mt. Pleasant. They made $800 worth of repairs to the coolant system. D****, stated the coolant system was bone dry which caused a hose to split. He said there was no evidence tht any water or coolnt had ever been in the system. He said they would pressure test it after repairs to see if there was engine damage. They thought it passed but could not promise that the engine was okay.. On the way home the car started smoking and broke down. The coolant system basically exploded because the engine was burned out. I had the car towed back to E*********** Beamers ($100) Now i am facing $4,500 in repairs to replace the engine and new cooling components. I wish to be made whole by J*** M******** & Meineke for $4500 (engine & repairs) $800 (coolant system repairs & air vaccuum) $300 (tow fees) & $3500 (meineke suppisedly spent one repairs alone) = $ 9,000 Mr. M******** will not honor the expense because he feels all repairs should have been entrusted to his shop even though he discovered malfeasance in his bay and destroyed 3 opportunities to build trust. (recorded phone call) I have optedbnot to sue in small claims court because the owner J*** M******** is a retired Finance Attorney from Chicago and a pro at dodging this kind of lawsuit. Thank you for your time.
